First half of the year- Macchu Picchu

happy travels to all

BTilke Dec 28th, 2004 09:56 AM

Iregeo (what does that name mean? I tend to misread the meaning of screen names; for a long time I read FamousUncleArt as Famous Unclear Art): we recently moved from Brussels to Maidenhead, UK. And all my travel plans for the year can be summed up in one goal: to spend the absolute MINIMUM amout of time stuck here in Maidenhead.

elaine Dec 28th, 2004 09:59 AM

that's funny, I used to misread YOUR name as "BTike"
8-)

maitaitom Dec 28th, 2004 10:05 AM

Maitai and company (another couple for the entire time, and other friends joining us at a few intervals along the way) will make Italy home for a few weeks this Fall. I almost have the entire trip booked and will bore the board with the details and itinerary after the first of the year.

Happy (and Safe) Traveling to Everyone!

Switzerland in March, Paris/Normandy in September, and Thailand in November. Plus, a few west coast trips from SF thrown in too.

Best wishes for a wonderful 2005!

annetti Dec 28th, 2004 10:28 AM

5 wks in Germany, Summer 2005. Maybe Prague?

AnselmAdorne Dec 28th, 2004 10:47 AM

A fascinating thread, and such variety!

January: Ottawa for a few days to hear Angela Hewitt play the Goldberg Variations
February: Hong Kong
May: the Auvergne region of France

That's all that we have planned at the moment, but I'm dreaming of another trip back to Europe in the fall.

Iregeo, I live in N.Cal. in the southern end of the Sacramento Valley (Vacaville). Have been here the last 4 years. Before that lived all my life in the SF Bay Area. Where do you live?

Imagine whereever you are you getting quite a rainstorm. We sure are!

Your facilities in PV sound fantastic. What a wonderful way to start the New Year! And just think, you will have sunshine and warmth. The combination would sure work for me.

Again, wishing you a beautiful trip and lots of fun and happy travels in 2005.

julie_Colorado Dec 28th, 2004 01:27 PM

First - a few responses.. I grew up in Spring Lake, NJ - just went back for the first time in a long time. It's lovely, enjoy it. Second, I'm glad to see so many people go to Europe multiple times in a year. I always think I may be daft for going several times.

Now to my big vacation next year.. I'm really very, very excited as I'm taking my niece and daughter to Venice, Umbria, and Rome for 3 weeks. My niece lives in rural Michigan. She's from a lovely family and is a lovely girl - but travel just isn't an option or a priority (food and shelter being the priorities). She's never left the state. However, last year I took her on a business trip to Germany at the Christmas market time. Then in June we spent a month in Amsterdam, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. I talked to her mother yesterday, and she is working with her highschool to understand jobs that require foreign travel. I was so excited to hear this! My husband isn't able to travel as much as I do - so we bill our trips the "just chicks no dicks tours".

I understand from previous posters that I may rot in hell. But that's ok. I'll go anywhere once - even if it gets bad reviews (after all, I loved Athens)...

RufusTFirefly Dec 28th, 2004 01:40 PM

We'd really like to work out a trip to Japan. But we hate hot, humid weather and with Mrs. Fly being a school teacher, any trip of length ends up being in the summer. But we're still working on it.

Iregeo Dec 28th, 2004 01:52 PM

BTilke, "Iregeo" is the first 3 letters of my first and last name.

LoveItaly, I know Vacaville! Home of the world famous onion festival!! I live in So. Cal. (San Fernando Valley), but much prefer No. Cal. San Francisco is one of my favorite cities in the world, along with many in Italy! Best wishes.

barbmike Dec 28th, 2004 02:03 PM

We are not far from you as we live in Westlake Village, Calif.. Mike

LoveItaly Dec 28th, 2004 02:11 PM

Hi Iregeo, yes the onions and Vacaville. But no more onions. No more fruit processing plants either. Vacaville is still surronded by farmland and orchards (and the BlueRide Mountains on the west that seperate us from Napa Valley) but Vacaville is now almost 100,000 population. And it is known for his Outlet Stores.

San Francisco - oh sigh - I love SF too, to much actually. Just spent a few days there before Christmas. SF and anywhere in Italy are always fantastic.

I do get down to Ojai occassionally, but not to much in S Ca. Family in Long Beach moved up to the N.San Juan Islands. Well California is beautiful IMHO.

Happy travels in 2005 everyone!

Iregeo Dec 28th, 2004 02:28 PM

hey barbmike. We have our law office in Westlake Village. Guess this big world is small afterall!

barbmike Dec 28th, 2004 02:39 PM

VERY VERY SMALL!!! What's the name of the Firm? You can email me at [email protected] if you don't want to make it public. Mike

Iregeo Dec 28th, 2004 02:40 PM

Will do.

Patty Dec 28th, 2004 03:03 PM

In late January, we're heading to Kenya with a few days stopover in Paris. After that I have no conrete plans yet for the year. Maybe Hawaii over Easter. Happy travels to all!

ilovelabs2003 Dec 28th, 2004 03:18 PM

We will be traveling to Virginia Beach to visit my sis-in-law and bro-in-law and our two beautiful nephews in Feb or April or the summer (can't decide which school vacation to go).

Then, we will be in England and Ireland for 16 days in June/July, attending a wedding of a close college friend in Killarney while in Ireland.

We will also be going to Vermont on occasion to visit my mother-in-law. We actually leave Thursday for our annual New Year's celebration.

Happy travels everyone!

FainaAgain Dec 28th, 2004 03:19 PM

This year I am making it! Not sure where to, as my son will know in January if he can go with me, then it will most likely be Austria and Switzerland. If not, I am going alone. No more staying at home! And I don't care about economy, Euro vs Dollar or anything else. If this trip is expensive, I will cut on other, smaller trips.

JJBhoy Dec 28th, 2004 03:42 PM

We'll be visiting Lake Como & Bergamo in early April & hopefully we'll also get to Florida later on in the year.

All the best to Fodorites everywhere in 2005!

Jim

travelbunny Dec 28th, 2004 05:03 PM

Iregio, I still plan to go to Thailand. I had not intended to do any time on the beaches (I freckle and peel). I hope others will not cancel their plans as tourism is one of the country's revenue sources.

monicapileggi Dec 28th, 2004 06:03 PM

London and the Baltics in May (4 nights London and a 14-night cruise on Celebrity); Hawaii in October; and hopefully NYC for a long weekend sometime in 2005.

Happy New Year to all fodorites!!!

Monica ((F))

toni Dec 29th, 2004 01:00 AM

Happy New Year everyone, our family is going to do the beach thing in Northern Queensland for 8 days in January. No doubt I will be sitting on my beach chair, fine tuning our one month trip to Andalucia, San Sebastian, Dordogne and Paris in June/July. Can't wait!

Dr_DoGood Dec 29th, 2004 02:49 AM

Mlle. Do Good and I will be infesting Italy for three weeks end May/early June (a week in Venice and two weeks in a villa on the Amalfi Coast) – that’s our honeymoon and will be a major splurge-fest (natch)!

Prior to that Mlle will be in Porto for a few days in Feb and I’m in the High Atlas Mountains for a week’s trekking in April (Stag Weekend seems to be getting to be a looser and looser term these days!).

We’ll no doubt be paying a few of flying visits to Mlle’s family in Perpignan throughout the year and we’re hoping to get to New York for a week in November for some Christmas shopping (“Gee! Everything’s sooo cheap over there right now!”) but we might substitute that for some warmth in Kenya if the UK summer fails to materialise this coming year.

Plus the usual ubiquitous business trips to Paris and Verona/Padua ….

However, the really exiting trip will come this time next year when, with my brother in-law, I’ll be taking the ferry from Plymouth, then driving south through France and Spain, into Morocco and across Western Sahara, Mauritania and Senegal to The Gambia. It’s a sponsored charity drive…. Only hitch is the vehicle must be bought for less than £100 and no more than £15 to do it up prior to departure!! Hopefully I’ll be able to tell all after flying home.

So, all in all 2005 promises to be a busy year for the passport.

Best wishes to all for the New Year and happy and safe travels!

Kavey Dec 29th, 2004 02:59 AM

Here's hoping 2005 is a good year for you all. My thoughts for 2005 are particularly with those who have lost loved ones in the recent earthquake and who will be dealing with the aftermath for many many months to come.

Having travelled so much this year 2005 is going to be quieter, travel wise.

We're taking a short trip to the Galapagos Islands - the second annual festival of wildlife organised by Wildlife Worldwide. Enjoyed the first one this year very much.

And in November we're hoping to be visiting Florida with friends who have recently bought a home in Orlando area. Hoping too that other friends living in US will be able to meet us there for a little GTG.

Keren Dec 29th, 2004 03:10 AM

Mid or end of April 2005 - 10 days in France, almost certainly 7 days in Angers and 3 in Paris. Initially it was supposed to be Lyon + day trips but now that I decided I just can't go to France without visiting Paris again, I think Angers-Paris will give me more contrast, since Lyon is quite a big city, as opposed to Angers.
Then Beginning or mid October - either Italy (Tuascany? Veneto?) or France (Alsace-Lorraine? Alps? Languedoc?), will know for sure probably around June, I really can't decide right now.
Happy New Year and Happy Travels to everyone!
Keren

Renee Dec 29th, 2004 06:12 AM

We're going to Prague in early March and Honolulu in mid August.

abbynicole27 Dec 29th, 2004 06:40 AM

Two weeks in June seeing Paris, Salzburg, Vienna, Venice, and the French Riviera - then a month in Paris with my missions team.
Happy New Year everyone!

Powell Dec 29th, 2004 07:01 AM

IREGEO, Happy New Year!

In late June, Rome, first time for me, then back to St. Remy in Provence to witness the lavender and sunflowers, then to Paris for a few nights. We will have A/C in Rome and Paris, chancing it in St. Remy.

Later in 2005, we plan to continue visiting places in America (In 2004 we visited Monticello and UVA). Perhaps Charleston, SC.

We are in our late sixties. I still work, my wife is retired. We do hope that there is peace in the world that you all can continue to travel, to enjoy, to learn, to grow.

Happy New Year!

Anthony

SusanP Dec 29th, 2004 08:10 AM

Mexico for the first two weeks in January with husband, then 17 nights in Italy by myself in late Sept. I can't wait!

Desert_Sue Dec 29th, 2004 08:35 AM

Italian Grand Prix (Monza) in September with visits to Milan, Italian Riviera, and Luzern as we have to fly in and out of Zurich.

Iregeo Dec 31st, 2004 06:34 PM

barbmike, did you ever get my e-mail?

summersquash Dec 31st, 2004 06:45 PM

London January 7th, & then to Rome on the 11th for 5 days & back to U.K. for another week.

barbmike Dec 31st, 2004 06:51 PM

NO, I did not receive your email !!! My wife is recovering from knee surgery (3 weeks ago) so I'm here in my office in my house watching football and the computer. Mike P.S. We're babysitter for our loving granddaughter!!!

hobbes Dec 31st, 2004 07:57 PM

India in Feb, swimming with whale sharks off coast of Philippines in April, cycling in Guilin some time and Shanghai and Tokyo this month - tagging along on partners business trip.

uhoh_busted Jan 1st, 2005 07:20 AM

We're planning on "retiring" and moving to North Carolina in 2005. (That's in quotes, because neither of us is yet 62, and me for some time, so we'll probably find some sort of work to pay for future travel!) While international travel is probably not on the horizon, we'll visit NYC a couple of times (maybe we can meet up Scarlett!) and we're semi-set on a visit to the Pacific Northwest in September. May also be able to nip down to Florida to GTG with Kavey again :) in November.

Nutella Jan 1st, 2005 09:13 AM

Rome in April.
Then perhaps again in the fall. One way ticket.
... I can dream, can't I? : )

Ozarksbill Jan 1st, 2005 12:12 PM

I think I will join up with hobbes on those trips. I haven't actually decided. We may take our first big trip with the one-year old this year, maybe Canada or Puerto Rico. My wife and I are already planning a big anniversary trip for 2006. We have never been on a cruise. I am not that interested in it, and she has always wanted to, so we are considering a Mediterranean cruise, combined with a short land stay (maybe Greece, Italy, Turkey, or Croatia).
