Greek Honeymoon Itinerary

So after getting some wonderful advice and information from everyone in this forum, my fiance and I have finally hammered out what we hope are the plans for our early June honeymoon!

Before I begin, I'd like to thank (deep breath) yorkshire, judy, brotherlee, kay, jan, jane, wug, cheryl, ifnotnow, brenny, and parosblue for helping a traveling/Greece neophyte with great advice, encouragement, and patience - I truly appreciate it.

For anyone who stumbles on this itinerary and wants to know some of the info and thinking that went into any of these decisions, you can find my original post here: http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...p-400567-2.cfm

I'd love to hear everyone's opinion and of course if I'm making a major blunder anywhere, feel free to let me know!!

Day 1(Monday) - Flight to Athens (1 stop - Geneva transfer)
Day 2 - Arrive in Athens early PM, stay at airport and wait for flight to Naxos; Arrive in Naxos (Nissaki Beach Hotel)
Day 3 - Naxos
Day 4 - Naxos (Day trip to Delos/Mykonos)
Day 5 - Naxos
Day 6 - Ferry from Naxos to Santorini; Arrive in Santorini (Delfini Suite Cave House - Complex C)
Day 7 - Santorini
Day 8 - Santorini (Rent a car - Akrotiri Archeological Site, if open, and some more inland sights)
Day 9 - Santorini (Possibly keep the car for a second day of sights)
Day 10 - Earliest flight from Santorini to Athens (or ferry, we haven't decided); Arrive in Athens (Hotel Attalos)
Day 11 - Athens
Day 12 - Flight back to US

Cheers to everyone who took the time to read about our upcoming trip! Just typing this out has gotten me excited... and of course, I'm still in the market for any advice - in particular, if anyone has any words of encouragement (or, discouragement) about any of the hotels - please let me know. We vetted them as best we could on TripAdvisor, but it never helps to get an extra set of opinions or suggestions for better accommodations comparably priced or comparable accommodations at a better price! Also, I just wanted to get the basic shape of the trip first, so I could book everything straight away, then begin planning what to do while we're staying (as you can see by my nicely vague "umm, see the sights!" note) so if anyone has advice for things to do besides enjoy each others company, feel free to share!!

And thanks again to everyone, this has been a such a welcoming and helpful community; I can't wait to get back and share my trip report with you all!

I think your honeymoon plans look great! What memories you're going to make. I also like your "umm, see the sights!" comment. This is your honeymoon, my suggestion is to not try to plan everything out ahead of time. You've done a good amount of research, continue to read and ask questions but, leave some things to chance.

Take the time to soak up the atmosphere, enjoy each other and chill. You're going to be very tired after the build up to the wedding and the wedding itself. Chill on a beach, chill on your terrace, wander the towns with no plan except to enjoy the atmosphere.

This is what I LOVE about the Greek Islands. I've traveled a lot for pleasure and I also travel internationally a lot for work. When people ask me where my favorite place is, I always say it depends... if I want a place where I am the most relaxed, a place where I don't have a care in the world, that place is the Greek Islands. Take advantage of this and enjoy! We can't wait to hear all about it when you return.

Looks like fun & do-able You did not repeat arrival date: May 31?? If so, u are lucky! Usually only 1 flight per day, but May 31 has a 17:00 (5pm) flight BOOK IT NOW ... BOOK IT BEFORE ANY HOTEL. BOOK NOW. Heehee just capitalized to get your attention! Plane only has 45-50 seats, fills up waaay ahead; u don't want to have to stay o'nite to get a pre-dawn flite.

Since your time in Athens is fairly short, I'd fly from Santorini rather than ferry to allow more time to see Athens.
Looks like a fantastic trip!

I see you received 33 reply to you initial post. That is what is so good with these forums, so many people who have been where you want to go, sharing helpful information.
There is not much that I can add to the advice you have already received, as I too believe the Naxos Santorini combination is unbeatable and you have developed a good plan.
The only suggestion I may have for you is the Delos Mykonos excursion boat only goes 3 times a week so you will need to check the weather forecast and see what is the best day to do the excursion. That trip takes basically all day and Delos in particular is quite fantastic, however having said that, given it is your honeymoon you may want to consider passing up that very busy day and perhaps spending more quality time together on Naxos. Not only does it have great beaches but it is well worth you time to rent a car and explore some of the mountain villages to discover how people lived in Greece before WW 2
I saw in the initial thread that your fiance did not know about Naxos. I have a few pictures to demonstrate what a good decision you have made.

A day trip to visit the mountain villages taken last year in late May

Hi RoveT,
I can only say that your itinerary looks great. You will be glad you spent the effort to research. One good reason about spending your memorable honeymoon in Greece is that there are so many anniversaries to use as a reason to get back. The only thought I had was already voiced by stanbr - you may want to save the trip to Delos for a future visit. It is wonderful if you have the itch to go, but you may want to dig in and spend more time on Naxos. Anyway, you can wait until you get there to book the excursion. Attalos is a great location in Athens - we often stay there. Be sure to get to the new Acropolis Museum after you pay homage to the Parthenon.
You are welcome for the tips from all - fellow travelers simply just love to share.
