Granada Hotels

Looking for a hotel in the center of town 3-4 stars.

Has anyone stayed at Hotel Dauro II or Inglaterra?

Other suggestions near Plaza Nuerva?

Oh my goodness, the mere sight of the name Inglaterra brought back wonderful memories of our first visit to Granada back in 1985. An old building, with a rickety old elevator and it was run by two of the cutest little old ladies I have ever seen - always greeting us with a warm smile. They spoke little english, and were amused and very gracious in our attempts to speak spanish.
Our room was a decent size with cold, white marble floors (mid May), and as I remember a good sized bathroom. The bed....well...lets hope they have new mattresses since we were there, because we kept rolling into the center of the mattress. I believe we were on the 3rd floor and we were awakened by the sound of garbage trucks outside our window. The hotel was clean and very comfortable. I believe I found it through Hilary Rubensteins B&B book.
That was 17 yrs ago. Probably new management and many renovations since then, but I would stay there again.
Don't know if my response helps at all, but it was fun reminiscing a wonderful first trip to Spain.

Thanks for the story.
That was 16 years ago. I think it has since been bought by a large chain.
I know that 16 years ago the elevator was rickety, the cute old ladies, well.... old mattresses and noisy. Hopefully it has been renovated.
Any body stay lately?
Corrie that was a great story. It brought back some sweet memories for me also. I was there 20 years ago and again 2 months ago. Yes, it has changed alot since then.

Try the Reina Cristina, a very nice 3 star hotel perfectly located near the center of granada. Here's the URL:
http://www.hotelreinacristina.com/
reina3/esp.idc?i=N

If you'd like more info on our trip to Granada, check out my web site-
http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/5733
Thanks Steve. I'm tempted to switch from the Dauro II to the Reina Cristina.
We expect to arrive in the evening by train.
What is the area like around the hotel and Pl Trinidad?

Just warning you read the post below "Warning do not go to Spain"
Just a fellow traveller informing you...

Robert,
My response was intended for Steve or anyone else who could answer my questions.
Are you now adding to all Spain postings? Is Spain any worse than N.Y., L.A. or Miami?
I just stayed at the Inglaterra a few weeks ago and would highly recommend it. It is owned by a chain and definitely has a chain hotel feel, but it has comfortable beds, great bathrooms, a good breakfast buffet, and air conditioning that actually made the room truly cool (not the case in many of the hotels we stayed in during our 3 week trip). The location is great - practically across the street from the cathedral and a couple minutes walk from the Plaza Nueva where you catch the bus up to the Alhambra. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks but I've already switched from Dauro II to Reina Cristina. Can't see myself switching again. Why?

Hi.. just got back from 8 days in Spain and I did spend the night in Granada.. I used a Fodor's Suggestion.. the ALHAMBRA PALACE.. its beautiful.. Arabic style.. there is no pool..but a lovely terrace overlooking the whole city .. where you can have a glass of Sangria :-) It's also centrally located as you can walk to the Alhambra and the center of town very easily... HAVE FUN!

Myer Aug 13th, 2001 02:14 PM

Alhambra was fully booked at the time I was inquiring. Thanks.

Any comments on Granada hotel Washington Irving? I'm considering staying there but don't know enough about it and can't find a website with photos. Is it worth the price? Or comments on (budget place) Hotel Niza?
