I gagged as soon as the phrase "stroll along the Champs-Élysées" showed up. Does no one walk there?

latedaytraveler Sep 25th, 2014 12:10 PM

Hi CIGALACHANTA,

Good simple advice, especially for first timers.

I have no illusions - I am a tourist and don't pretend to be otherwise, always trying to be respectful, appreciative, and cooperative with those in my host country. No problems either. :)

kerouac Sep 25th, 2014 12:37 PM

I thought the advice was very sound.

KTtravel Sep 25th, 2014 01:25 PM

No, AJ, it is a requirement to stroll.

PalenQ Sep 25th, 2014 01:33 PM

One of the first things I did in Paris the first time was head to stroll along the Champs Elysees and I still do it every time I'm in Paris - always something interesting in the fancy auto dealers, upscale boutiques. etc.

hetismij2 Sep 25th, 2014 01:34 PM

Hallelujah. It is good advice and not exclusive to Paris. A pity Fodor's doesn't have stickies. If they did this should be at the top of the Europe forums.

PalenQ Sep 25th, 2014 02:35 PM

hetismij2 - pardon this Luddite but what the heck is a sticky or stickies - dank u wel!

cigalechanta Sep 25th, 2014 02:36 PM

check out the sites frugal hotels

Pegontheroad Sep 25th, 2014 03:38 PM

Pal, I am about as ignorant of computers as one can be and still be sentient, but even I know what a sticky is.

Percy Sep 25th, 2014 07:11 PM

Good advice which I think most tourist would do.
Yep it's a nice long walk from le Concorde to the Arc de Triumph ( Champs Elysees)

IMDonehere Sep 25th, 2014 09:34 PM

Damn it, I was going to go as someone else.

manouche Sep 26th, 2014 04:38 AM

I thought it was a good article - but it's a shame that it probably won't show up on Trip Advisor - the people who really need to read this sort of thing won't see it...

MissPrism Sep 26th, 2014 05:49 AM

I liked the phone "laying" on the table. I wonder what an iPhone egg looks like. Apple shaped, no doubt

FrenchMystiqueTours Sep 26th, 2014 05:54 AM

I've met the author of the article and we discussed tourism in Paris and what he wrote is pretty much what we talked about, and then some.

Dukey1 Sep 26th, 2014 06:02 AM

the people who really need to read this sort of thing won't see it...

Actually they are HERE

dwdvagamundo Sep 26th, 2014 06:42 AM

AJ--even the Rolling Stones do it ("Strolling on the boulevards of Paris. . . ")

Pintxos Sep 26th, 2014 08:30 AM

cigalechanta, what about the frugal hotels? Are you saying they have a good roster?

AJPeabody Sep 26th, 2014 09:34 AM

I prefer to amble, mosey, saunter, or traipse. On occasion I may even gallivant, although I have resisted the rare temptation to sashay. But I refuse utterly to stroll. No, sir! I'd rather limp!
