Germany in June

I will be attending a conference in Dresden in June I would like my husband to meet me and travel across the south for a week. I am really interested in the castles, the beer, and the beautiful scenery.
What cities and sites would you suggest?

p.s. we are huge football fans so being in a city at the same time as the world cup is just an added bonus!

Do I get that right that you want to leave Dresden as soon as possible after your conference? Yikes! There are castles, beer and beautiful scenery in and around Dresden too.

I would recommend Radeberger beer (Dresden), Koenigstein castle (S of Dresden) and hiking in the Saxony Switzerland / Bastei area (near Koenigstein).

You won't find better beer, a more impressive fortress/castle, or more beautiful, underexpored (by foreign tourists) scenery in Southern Germany.

If you're planning on being somewhere at the same time as the world cup, get your hotel (and tickets, if you're interested in doing that) NOW, as they'll be going fast.

In response to the first poster. I will be in Dresden for a week alone so I will want to see as many sights as possible. After that we would like to see as much of South Germany as possible. It will be our first trip there!
