German VISA starting one day after departure

Hi

I have applied for German VISA for 4 months from 15 Nov. I have collected my passport but I found one mistake that in stamp they have mentioned starting date is 16 Nov. My ticket is of 15 Nov.

Please someone reply what can be done in that case. I want to change date from 16 Nov to 15 Nov.

Regards
Varun

Since whatever gets suggested here is going to end with "you are going to need to contact the German consulate", why not just call them right now?

Where are you flying from? Is it an overnight flight? Is it possible your plan departs on the 15th and lands on the 16th?

Dukey1 Oct 7th, 2013 05:08 AM

One wonders if this person will even be allowed to board the plane.

nytraveler Oct 7th, 2013 06:28 AM

Sorry - if this is not an overnight flight I think it will be much easier to change the date of the flight than the date of the visa.

If your plane departs from your country of origin on the 15th and lands in Germany on the 16th, then you should be fine with your visa starting on the 16th. I have had this in the past, and not faced any issues.

I would be interested to know if anyone else thinks this is a problem these days.

However, if your plane arrives in Germany on the 15th, not sure what will happen. You are better off postponing your flight so that it gets there on the 16th.

Thanks guys for your reply. It's not an overnight flight. I will reach on 15 Nov according to current situation.

Is it possible if I contact Consulate, they will change my VISA date?

I have to be there on 15 Nov.

There is no way we can give you a definite answer here, we can only guess. Call the consulate and the airline NOW and see which one has the better solution.

Flight is from Delhi and I got VISA from Bangalore.

Thanks

You could hang out at the airport until midnight.

saikat_lahiri_5 Oct 7th, 2013 11:26 PM

If it's not too long just wait it out at the airport arrivals in Germany and explain to security if they ask.

Call the German consulate in Bangalore by all means and see if they agree to issue a fresh visa but I very much doubt they would do that very easily. You will probably have to go through the full process again.

I still think you should just postpone your flight to get there after midnight, since you still have plenty of time to do that. It's the path of least resistance.

Good luck.

If I plan to stay at airport only till 16 Nov, will immigration people allow me to board the flight on 15 Nov?

baladeuse Oct 8th, 2013 03:19 AM

You need to stop askiing people here to guess what will happen and instead address your questions to people with authoritative answers - ie the German embassy. If you applied for a visa from Nov. 15, I don't see why they shouldn't just fix their typo, but that's just my guess, you'll only know when you pick up the phone and ask them.

Planning to hang out in the airport till midnight is not a good idea, IMO.

Probably not but there are restrooms and food prior to immigration.

Assuming the airline allows her on the flight...

sparkchaser Oct 8th, 2013 07:03 AM

Yes, there is that consideration.

Alec Oct 8th, 2013 08:19 AM

Did you actually ask the visa to be valid from 15th November (usually by stating your proposed travel date)? Then if it was their mistake, get back to them now and get it changed, which they should.
If it isn't the case, then you are stuck I'm afraid. The airline probably won't allow you to board the flight, as they will be fined by carrying a passenger with inadequate or incorrect documentation. As you are a visa national, border agents can't just let you in before your Schengen visa becomes valid. Don't expect to be allowed to stay airside till after midnight, as you don't have onward ticket. So changing your flight seems the only solution then.

>>I have to be there on 15 Nov.<<

If so, your visa MUST be from the 15th. Quit asking here and contact the consulate/embassy/authorities. Not a single person in Fodors can solve this for you - ask the folks who actuallymight be able to help.

(as it currently is you most likely won't be allowed on the plane so your whole trip might be off)

Since I would assume the poster had to provide an airline ticket or reservation date when applying for the visa one wonders how this could have happened.

Since I would assume the poster had to provide an airline ticket or reservation date when applying for the visa one wonders how this could have happened.

Why would you assume that? What if their visa was denied?
