Here's another pre-registration classic--a troll about a cattle roundup and slaughter vacation which some took seriously:

I don't remember who wrote it, but I laughed a lot with a story about a checked-in leg lost ,,

Dear Fodor community,

We’ve only been members for about three weeks, and it took us a bit of time to realize the threads were as entertaining as they were informing.

We were kind of shy to post this, and didn’t know if we would get any responses… what a difference 12 hours makes! Our family has LOL over the first few links, and we’re still reading! A lot of our friends and realities will find and appreciate the top-notch wit.

As a sign of gratitude, I’ve asked them to become members of this community to enjoy for fun and good info. Hopefully, they will introduce themselves when reading this.

Keep the links coming!

Thanks to you!

OWJ's Trip from Smell: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34701198

This is the funniest trip report I've ever read!!

Dukey Mar 14th, 2007 01:15 PM

The "most comical?"

I hardly think any of my diatribes would qualify since I'm obviously hated by some and disdained by others.

BUT, that's OK because I still adore everybody here, even Flanner!

I think the funniest thread is long gone because it must be 5 or more years old. It got started when some guy wrote in saying that he "just loved wimmen" and wanted to know where to go to find the best ones.

The whole thread began a series of postings giving advice on street corners, how to dress, etc.

Finally we had him standing on a street corner in Pigalle waving a wad of money in one hand and a "sixer of Bud" in the other. Every once in a while he was to whistle, made some semi obscene comment, and belch for effect. The idea being that kind of behavior was alluring.

For attire, he was to be clad in tight wrangler jeans with a wide belt and a huge buckle, wearing a 10-gallon hat, bare chested with extra fake hair, barefooted, a red bandanna around his neck, and drooling tobacco juice for that extra manly look.

There were some other details I have forgotten, but I wish that thread could be brought back up. I just looked for it, but nothing I recall from the discussion has been a successful search key word.

Then there was a thread about one-way pedestrian bridges in Paris. That one was in response to someone who wanted to know if the bridges in Paris went both ways. It got a little preposterous before it was over.

I remember the Haggis in a Tube thread. If one has never eaten Haggis, I don't think it meant as much as it did to those who either love it or hate it.

I may be of Scottish ancestry, but that stuff is worse than my uncle's sausage!!

Back in the day, when Spoon and Lord David, after months of arguing, realised they actually knew each other in real life.

Can't find the thread...Audere?

The Tennessee Trio's trip of terror or something like that-hilarious.

There was another one about inexperienced travelers plaaning for a 3 week trip to Europe with 2 weeks notice-I think NorCalif was the poster. That was a great one.

Pray for the leg was also one of my faves...

PalenQ Mar 15th, 2007 06:18 AM

Dukey - yes he provides good comedic relief...but he's no IntrepidOne who had even better humorous repartees!

Actually he seems like a slightly older and bit more subdued Intrepid1.

And about Dukey's statement:
BUT, that's OK because I still adore everybody here, even Flanner!

What's not to adore about Ole Boy Flanner - my favorite poster and a words crafter with a sublime sense of humour. You may not always agree with his bluster but you always marvel at how he writes it.
