Frappe Coffee

Who hasn't tried it, during a visit in Greece! I believe it is one of the best coffies, don't you think? It is the most important contribution of modern Greece to western civilisation!!!

Oh, how I agree, but as a "sugar-busters" follower, I must say that four weeks of frappes in Greece was nearly my total undoing!!

Yes Patrick you are right!
But tell me is there anything better than sitting in a sea-side cafe, under the hot sun, and enjoying your ice cold frappe (or frapedia or frapogalo), with a cigarette?
This is the greek way of living!!

Kate Mar 7th, 2001 03:06 PM

Mmmmm.... can't agree more!! Tried to make it here once, but it just didn't taste the same!
:)
Boy how I miss Greece...
Ok... it's a toss up between the Frappe and the yoghurt at b-fest with the thick honey... oh my gosh.. blows US brands of Yoghurt out of the water... so rich ....my tummy is rumblin'.

Kate
I suppose you used a shaker to make your frappe coffee. Here in Greece most of the cafes (and personally in my home) use a frappe mixer. It is quicker, cleaner, and creates richer foam and taste. That is why your frappe tasted different.
Thyra,
that exact moment I am eating yoghurt with honey! I have added some nuts into the yoghurt too! mmmmm...!!!

Patrick Mar 8th, 2001 12:28 PM

Panos: now you're just being mean telling us about eating that yoghurt! May you choke on a nut! (only kidding, of course).
I discovered my first frappe at the cafe in front of our hotel The Aeolis on Samos. Practically everybody was drinking them so it didn't take me long to join in, for a twice daily ritual. And I do forgo the cigarette, but with all the smokers surrounding me, I guess it doesn't make much difference if you smoke with the frappe or not.

For all those with sweet memories of their frappé days in Greece there is now "Frappé Nation," a colorful new book devoted the frappé way of life. The site includes a recipe for authentic, Greek-style frappé: http://www.frappenation.com/frappe.html
