Hi Mimi, great photos. Especially liked the one of the roof tiles in many colors. I see we got our pictures up the same night, only my trip was two months ago and yours was last week.

Scarlett Sep 16th, 2005 08:46 PM

Mimi
I absolutely loved these photos! The Pups!! what sort of pup was the one lying by the window ? lol, a lot of hair!
That viaduct!! I got dry mouthed and nervous just looking at the photo .. what if the wind blows hard? yikes!
I loved the colors of the tiles, the pictures of the village, they were all great. Thank you!

PamSF Sep 17th, 2005 10:39 AM

Welcome back, Mimi! I enjoyed reading about your trip - the sights, surprises, food, friends, hotels, etc. - all of it wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing your adventure with us.

Loved the photos. Especially the pups. The wired haired fox terrier checking out the table did me in. Thanks for sharing, Mimi.

geraldineb Sep 19th, 2005 12:24 AM

Thanks Mimi for the report and the pictures! I have not been to visit my relatives in 5 years! We are planning to go back this summer! Your pictures brought back my beautiful memories and I am longing to be back in France! My cousins son works in Aix making Santons! I loved your pictures! Thanks again!

PS: I too gained weight after the death of my father and a knee injury I sustained taking care of him 10 days before he died. I have been in a wheel chair for the last year and now am able to walk with a cane. I am trying to lose weight before I see my French cousins. They are all so small! I hope I do not get ugly comments or looks !

cigalechanta Sep 19th, 2005 06:35 AM

gereldineb, I'm happy you are out of your wheelchair, and don't worry, the French do not make ugly comments in general. Rudeness is not coming from any one country, only from rude people.
Don't delay because of weight. Loved ones only see the wonderful things about you.

Joanie_ET Sep 20th, 2005 03:47 PM

Cigalechanta,
What a great report! My hats off to you for driving from Chagny (I'm familiar with it, as we were near there a year and some ago to see Beaune and Autun) all the way to St.-Paul-de-Vence. Now that had to be a long haul!
Anyway, thanks for the treat. I love to hear about other folks' experiences in France, not just Paris.
Regards,
Joanie from le Californie (Destination Paris msn board)

cigalechanta Sep 20th, 2005 05:22 PM

joanie, so happy to see you here too. Thanks. I m planning on meeting Michael for a drink or spend the day and hope to meet Lucy in February

cigalechanta Sep 22nd, 2005 06:38 PM

tower Sep 25th, 2005 01:36 PM

Mimi...thank yo for the detailed trip reports. Paralleled many towns, villages and regions that I've covered in the past..always tickles the nostalgia nerve to read other people's reports. Love your attention to detail.
I see that you had a gathering in Brookline...I'm a Californian now for the past 48 years..but born and brought up in Quincy, first wife (now deceased) was from Brookline...spent a helluva lot of time on that trolley line...I have been back to the Boston area many times..as recently as this past May..stayed with an old friend in Wayland, but attended granddaughter's graduation from Emerson College, held at the Wang Center...Emerson, is my alma mater..got to present granddaughter for her diploma. Still refer to Quincy as "my hometown"...also took my first graduate degree at BU.
Many happy travels in the future, Mimi... (where in the area do you live?)

Stu T.

cigalechanta Sep 25th, 2005 04:06 PM

Stu, not in Brookline BUT Brookline St. I'm in Cambridgeport by MIT and University Park.
Thanks for your kind words. A friend of mine tsaught at Emerson. I'm working part time for her to pay for my Paris trip in February.
And for all my friends here!!!!
We adopted a small 14 lb grey poodle that I call "Pastis."

letour Sep 25th, 2005 04:42 PM

Salut,Pastis!

cigalechanta Sep 25th, 2005 04:48 PM

letour sent me your address(at hotmail_ to send you a card photo that I had made from ny photo of Le Progress

Scarlett Sep 25th, 2005 05:50 PM

Congratulaations Mimi and J on the new member of the family!!
Pastis! perfect ((L))

tower Sep 26th, 2005 11:36 AM

Mimi..."pastis", eh!? Hope the little pup doesn't walk around in a daze all the time. That's what happened to me the first time I sipped one (years ago, in Aix). Not being a drinker, it came close to flooring me.
I just asked for your e-mail on The Fanatic Traveler thread about the Loyola professor and his prodigious feats of travel. Ho hum!
When did your friend teach at EU? Whatdid she teach?
Stu

SuzieC Sep 26th, 2005 12:16 PM

YAAAAAAY!
Pastis! (mmmm... I guess a pastis mixed with a wee dribble of cold water is silver!)

hopingtotravel Sep 27th, 2005 09:06 AM

Just back from my visit to Portland, OR and so glad your trip report was near enough the top to find. It was lovely, and as everyone said, I could see and smell Provence when I read it. I was very glad your rental car was reliable this year!
I'm so glad you now have 'Pastis'. We fear our Scotty may have Cushing's disease--guess terriers are prone to it. I've always said the only cure for losing a dog is to get another dog.

hopingtotravel Sep 28th, 2005 04:10 PM

Topping - in case someone else was out of town and didn't get to read.

cigalechanta Sep 28th, 2005 04:33 PM

thanks hopingtotravel and welcome back. Did you meet Scarlett while there?
Or any fodorites?

hopingtotravel Sep 29th, 2005 07:06 AM

I didn't meet Scarlett, though am still jealous she got to move there. My DH was originally from Portland and I love it.

mvor Sep 29th, 2005 10:14 AM

Congratulations on your new baby Pastis! I loved your report and photos (I knew there'd be tons of animals). Most of our photos from our recent trip are of black kitties with a couple of doggies for good measure.

Thanks for the tip on the Maeght. We didn't visit it on this trip since we tried to focus mostly on new places and museums (Gourdon, St. Jeanett and the Chagall Museum were our favourites).

We're heading back next July and I'm sure we'll return to the Maeght. The artwork is tremendous but I especially love the garden with the little chapel dedicated to their son. It's so peaceful.

SeaUrchin Sep 30th, 2005 12:46 PM

Thank you for the wonderful descriptive report, I felt like I was there with you, meeting your friends and dog friends.

Love the photos too.

SeaUrchin Sep 30th, 2005 01:02 PM

PS: Your photograph galleries always make me smile with all the feathered and furred friends!

cigalechanta Oct 1st, 2005 10:40 AM

topping for Nat!

cigalechanta Oct 5th, 2005 10:56 AM

I added a few more photos. They were lost and sent to the wrong shop.

topping for myself

Scarlett Oct 6th, 2005 07:21 PM

Lovely photos, I wish we could live in a village where all the roof tops are the same and the view is the same as the back of your hotel :)
Next year, will you go to the same places or all new places? Or will you make J go to Paris too :)

cigalechanta Oct 6th, 2005 07:27 PM

Hi Scarlett, we go to visit friends and then on the way new places we go to are the exciting finds. J. is an early to bed so he prfers France Profound over Paris, now me!!!!!! LOL
I thought of your pup when I viewed Nikki's photos.

Scarlett Oct 6th, 2005 07:37 PM

It sounds like the perfect way to travel, on the way to a place, you find something else..all that discovering new places and sights..
Yes, I immediately thought of pup when I saw that photo of Nikkis :)

JulieVikmanis Oct 7th, 2005 02:46 AM

So glad this resurfaced. I was on a trip and missed the original posting. We are in need of ideas for a winter trip to the Provence area and this certainly fills the bill. Thanks.

Nice pix, Mimi.

Thanks for sharing.

Mimi - thought I'd already posted a huge "merci" for your report, alas, I did not!

MERCI!! Loved the story and the photos, too.

hopingtotravel Oct 7th, 2005 07:58 AM

I've been busy working and am so glad I checked here this morning. Loved the photos. (I have two cats as well as my Scottie). We were so close to some of the towns around St. Remy I wish we'd had time to go to them. P.S. Am reading a book called "Renoir's Garden" -- intersperses his art with pictures of his old home and garden near Cagnes Sur Mer (if I spelled that right).

cigalechanta Oct 7th, 2005 04:02 PM

Hi hopingtotravel, we visited his house and garden but there were not many paintings.
mvor, we met Boris Yeltsin there one year for the opening of a Russian exhibit.
