Does anyone know a good place to stay and eat (not too expensive)in Compiegne.<BR>Since May 8 is a holiday in Paris,will I have a problem finding an open restaurant say in the 7th. arr.

You shouldn't have any trouble finding open restaurants on that date, that isn't one of the biggie holidays. I've been there on much bigger holidays and there were plenty of places to eat open.

There is a Logis de France in Compiegne, the name of which escapes me although I do remember it had "Chat" in the name somewhere! Basically it's in a 17th Century building and is probably the most unusual hotel I have ever stayed in. The walls are covered not with wallpaper but with a padded material, and there are huge wooden beams in the ceilings. It's also not always easy to find the doors to the bathrooms, as these tend to be covered in material too!<BR><BR>That said, I've stayed there twice and would definately go back again. There is a restaurant attached to it which is typical of the Logis chain - excellent traditional French food at good prices. The breakfast is also huge - everything from melon and cornflakes to smoked sausage and cheese.

It was the restaurant which had "chat" in the title - "La Rotisserie du Chat qui Tourne."

The inn is on the outskirts of town near the forest.
