For Sicily lovers only !
I have added some new images to my Sicily gallery--most of them in Palermo. Perhaps the Sicily lovers may enjoy them.

Very nice!! Thanks for sharing :-) I love the collage of Taormina
|
P.S. If you don't mind me asking, what camera did you use? You captured the flowers and ruins so perfectly. I always end up with one or the other fuzzy with my current camera

You can see my photos from my Sicily trip with elderhostel here:
http://www.eldergallery.com/gallery/album12 Please do not be put off that the top of the page says "New Zealand". Some guy on the trip created the web page for me and had previously gone to New Zealand. I have told him, but. . . . Beggars can't be choosers and we still have the New Zealand typo. We spent two weeks on the sailboat traveling from Catania to Palermo stopping at 5 of the Aeolian Islands. The guy playing the flute is the ship's captain. |
Actully Aggie it was two cameras from 2 trips. A few shots are digitized slides from a trip in 2001. Most are from a Fuji 3.2 MGPX camera I had in 2005---I have now upgraded that one.

Bob and FauxSteMarie - beautiful pictures! Thank you so much for sharing.
Cheers, Murphy |
Hmmm... I use an Olympus 4 mgpx but I always have difficulty getting the flower/fauna in the foreground to focus without making the ruin in the background get all fuzzy and out of focus. Perhaps it isn't the camera after all... maybe it is just the operator! I also looked through your other photo albums and it was just like journeying to those places. You have a talent for capturing the essence of a place. Thanks again for sharing

Prego Aggie !
I try to relive every trip several times. |
Hmmm ! Make that grazie Aggie !
I must have been drinking. |
bobthenav, nice shots!
TexasAgg, you are describing a very common problem. Check your manual to see if it discusses "depth of field" which is camera speak for controlling how much of the picture ends up in focus. Many cameras have settings that will allow the entire picture to be in focus. If yours doesn't, try googling "depth of field" and you may learn a trick or two you can apply to your camera to put the foreground and background in focus. Or ask some of the more knowledgeable folks here to help you. I don't have a digital camera. But this is a neat technique to master and it isn't difficult once you know how. |
Murphy, thanks for the compliment. I have to learn how to get my photos up online from other trips. It is a slow learning curve. I do have to say that my photos from Sicily were so beautiful because Sicily is so beautiful. It is not hard to take beautiful photos when the scenery cooperates.
I just wish Americans would expand their definition of what Italy is beyond Venice, Florence, Rome and the Amalfi Coast. |
Well said Faux !
After 13 trips we still have at least one more to do. |
I want to return to Sicily one day. We went from Catania to Palermo on the trip. We missed all the sites on the hypotenuse--not to mention Monreale. The one at Cefalu was terrific though.
