Foodies

I've said often enough on this board that I'm not a "foodie". Most of the time I'll stop and eat when I'm hungry in Paris- rather than search out specific restaurants.

Here's a test to tell you just how much a "foodie" you are!

PS - I did better than I expected - 7 out of 10 (and I should have known better on one of those questions).

grandmere May 4th, 2005 03:52 PM

9/10!

JJBhoy May 4th, 2005 03:56 PM

Hi Starrsville,

I got 7/10 too - pretty good since I had to guess about 7 or 8 of them :)

I thought the raisin question had to be a trick question - so I thought it out too much. Had NO idea on the other two I missed.

Congrats, grandmere!

(Thanks again JJBhoy for your nice comment earlier this week).

Well I am chuffed -- 9/10. Missed the one on jerk.

Scarlett May 4th, 2005 04:04 PM

7/10 - dab got me, as did coccinella & the trick question :)

I don't mind being a foodie as long as I am not a snobbie lol

Scarlett May 4th, 2005 04:05 PM

sfowler, that was sort of a trick question too, I thought. We have a lot of Caribbean stores around here so I hear about it more :)

skatterfly May 4th, 2005 04:08 PM

Omigod! I always fancied myself a card-carrying foodie, and I only got 5 of the 10.

Oh, how I've failed.

And I was certain the raisins were a trick question. As if any self respecting foodie would use Thomspon seedless raisins when presented with two better choices. Then again, do foodies actually make fruitcake?

;-)

Fun link.

kat, I think more than a few foodies might BE fruitcakes LOL

Jocelyn_P May 4th, 2005 04:18 PM

7/10, same misses as Scarlett. I wonder if the bride told her guests that there were crushed insects on the cake...

Leely May 4th, 2005 04:27 PM

9/10! But I also did a lot of "educated" guessing.

dsm22 May 4th, 2005 04:29 PM

Ha, I just did that test before I came on here. I got an 8/10. I missed the
"dab on the fly" question, and the "cochineal" question. I am never eating pink icing again.

Wow grandmere and sfwoler, I am impressed!

Marilyn May 4th, 2005 05:01 PM

9 out of 10 for me, and I don't actually consider myself a foodie. (I missed zakuski.)

I know about the cochineal insects because they use them in Oaxaca to dye the yarn for rugs, shawls, etc. I never heard of them being used for food coloring!

tuscanlifeedit May 4th, 2005 05:21 PM

9/10 the Cochineal question got me, and I've been baking wedding cakes for about 17 years! I guess one never knows what one doesn't know. ;-)

cmt May 4th, 2005 05:33 PM

9
(I didn't know the difference between cooking fish and putting the finishing touch on strawberries)

Scarlett May 4th, 2005 05:37 PM

cmt, lol

cmt May 4th, 2005 06:41 PM

I think I learned about cochineal on a ranger-led nature walk on St. John, U.S. V.I. (or maybe it's just something I've read, but I did learn other odd facts on those nature walks).

Patrick May 4th, 2005 07:03 PM

9 out of 10, but I'm too embarrassed to say which one I missed. And I love sand dabs!

grandmere May 4th, 2005 07:16 PM

I think I've heard that cochineal are what give Campari its color.

mermaid_ May 4th, 2005 09:21 PM

8/10. My parents will be glad that my BS in Dietetics didn't go entirely to waste!
