Jocelyn_P Oct 24th, 2005 03:56 PM

Statia left for Venice yesterday. I received an email from her today saying that they arrived safely and were taking it easy after the 19 hour journey.

cigalechanta Oct 24th, 2005 04:13 PM

Bon Voyage, Statia I knew I was missing someone that I knew! Statia renewed her wedding vows in Venice now she's has another return. Heaven!

Scarlett Oct 24th, 2005 06:06 PM

Mimi goes to Paris in February !!!! :D

tuscanlifeedit Oct 24th, 2005 06:32 PM

I'm just a new kid on the board after a year or more, but we are going to Arizona in a few weeks. We leave on November 12. I am sooo not happy going somewhere other than Europe, but this is a gift to my husband for his 50th. For my 50th we went to Paris; if only he had wanted Paris for his birthday gift!

I am sure we will like Arizona. The only thing I dread is the Nascar race on November 13, but he is such a good husband that I can suffer through it. I am taking a book, as weird as that sounds. Went once before and thought I would die before the race was over.

Next Europe trip isn't until March 1.

cigalechanta Oct 24th, 2005 06:38 PM

Tuscan, happy birthday to you husband. You are a sweet wife. Arizona sounds cool to me.

massagediva Oct 24th, 2005 06:53 PM

I'm off to India(via Istanbul) Thursday for my big adventure!

annesherrod Oct 24th, 2005 07:14 PM

Happy travels to all!! I wish my loved one and I were visiting a mystic and romantic castle to savor every last drop of romanticism!!
I am physically stuck in the midwest, but my heart and soul are soaring in the beauty of scotland with the One I love!!!

OReilly Oct 27th, 2005 08:40 AM

Hi Mimi:

I am posting from the SAS lounge at Stockholm airport, on my way to London. I travel tomorrow mornign to Lisbon, pick up a car and hear off to Evora. I have done ZERO planning but HAVE printed off all the wonderful suggestions from kind FOdorites.

Next week, I meet Kavey and >Judy for dinner in London :) I will drink a toast to you.

Best wishes ... Ger

Kavey Oct 27th, 2005 09:18 AM

Jody (and her lovely DH) were in London recently and have moved on to Paris. CelticDreams was here too (for work) and has gone back home now.

As Ger says, Judy (starspinners) is here for her annual 3 weeks in London - we've met a couple of times already and looking forward to seeing Ger.

Carolyn and her non Fodorite daughter Lisa are currently in town and made the London GTG.

I'm off soon too...

MissZiegfeld Oct 27th, 2005 09:23 AM

going to Toronto next week, and London/Wales thanksgiving weekend..

Curt Oct 27th, 2005 09:25 AM

Tuscan
We too are going to Arizona the 12th Nov through 17th. We are at Phoenix/Scottsdale area. I also would rather be in Europe but we chose this area as my wife had not been there before and wanted to check it out. Should be fun. Staying at JW Marriott Desert Ridge and Caleo. How about you? What else you got planned?

Curt Oct 27th, 2005 09:28 AM

OH OH I did not know nascar was in Phoenix 13th of Nov. Hope that we can avoid that mess and not get trapped in traffic or crowded dining/drinking venues....is the track (please say yes) way way out in the suburbs?

tcreath Oct 27th, 2005 09:38 AM

I'm off to Paris next week and can't wait! My first time there, but surely not my last!

Tracy

MissZiegfeld Oct 27th, 2005 09:39 AM

actually, make that two trips to toronto in November! i forgot about that..the first time i'm going up to see Petula Clark in concert, the second time I'm seeing Connie Francis! can't wait.

lobo_mau Oct 27th, 2005 09:44 AM

Hi Ger, I hope you are bringing your umbrella and raincoat.

Mathieu Oct 27th, 2005 10:44 AM

An advance 'Welcome to Toronto', MissZeigfeld. Hope you get to see a bit of our beautiful Fall colours.

crefloors Oct 27th, 2005 10:52 AM

Heading to Copenhagen and Stockholm 28th December. I was really disappointed because Tivoli is not open in the winter, but found out they are open through the Christmas season, so will go on the 29th, nice stop for our first day. They close again on the 31st Dec. so my timing is perfect.

MarthaT Oct 27th, 2005 11:00 AM

I'm off to Ecuador and the Galapagos in 2 weeks. Can't wait. First time into South America.

sandi_travelnut Oct 27th, 2005 11:29 AM

Off to Chicago in November so my son can interview at Univ. of Illinois at Chicago.

tuscanlifeedit Oct 27th, 2005 12:37 PM

Curt

(my DH is Kurt) I have never been to Arizona before, but Kurt was there for 5 years in the Air Force. The race track is nowhere near Scottsdale, so you should be ok (as opposed to us). The track is south/southwest in the Phoenix suburbs, as far as I can see.

We have these plans, but not exactly sure of when we'll do what during our 4 nights in Phoenix:

Heard Museum
Desert Botanical Garden
Apache Trail drive
Taliesen West

and hopefully we will visit Scottsdale and see some galleries and maybe the Ranch Market, which is supposed to be an authentic Mexican-American experience. I am looking for cheap but good southwestern food.

Then we go to the Grand Canyon for two nights and Sedona for three. While in Sedona, we want to visit Montezuma's Castle, Jerome, do a little hiking and resting, too.

What are your plans?

tuscanlifeedit Oct 27th, 2005 12:43 PM

Forgot to add that we are staying in a motel. Our DD got married on October 15 and the discretionary spending budget is down to nothing! Our motel is the Best Western Papago Inn and it gets very good reviews. About $86 per night. All our rooms have coffee makers, but none offers breakfast. DH only wants coffee in the morning, but I am planning on buying some sort of pastries because I like to eat in the morning.

MissZiegfeld Oct 27th, 2005 01:34 PM

Mathieu--thanks! I haven't been able to see much of Toronto in the past..flew up there a few times but it was always for brief work related things. I'm glad I'll have more time to spend there this month!

sardog10 Oct 27th, 2005 01:59 PM

Just found out yesterday that we are moving back to Germany (Wiesbaden more specifically) in January. Wahoo! Have been home in Seattle for almost two years and miss Europe terribly. We are aiming to be there at least five years!

ThinGorjus Oct 27th, 2005 03:20 PM

I am leaving for Betty Ford next week. The car will be here for me at 11:00 AM on Wednesday. It had better have a mini-bar.

Scarlett Oct 27th, 2005 03:40 PM

Thin, I will come visit and bring you chocolates with gin in them :D

crefloors Oct 27th, 2005 04:10 PM

Thin..is that for real? I guess you won't be able to post will you. I wish you the best and if all fails you can eat Scarlett's chocolates.

TexasAggie Oct 27th, 2005 04:19 PM

Sigh... no where very exciting... Dallas next weekend to be a matron of honor in the wedding of a friend-turned-bridezilla who has dictated that all the bridemaids must be the same shade of tan, have hair, make-up, nails, and toenails professionally done, and wear no jewelry (even wedding bands). I wish I was headed to Rome...
Statia, I hope you are having a fabulous time in Venice right now!!!

tedgale Oct 27th, 2005 05:02 PM

Mathieu: You still have fall colours in Toronto? Here in Ottawa all is sere and bleak. Never known such a lousy October.

Just back from Uzes and the Lot, via Toulouse, 10 days ago. Seems like an eternity, due to 10- to 15-hour workdays thereafter.

Then this evening my dear spouse said " I MAY have a business trip coming up: How about South Africa for Christmas?"

Yippee, if it happens (I'm not holding my breath)

PS: During our France trip, a small but beautiful new cottage sprouted on our lakeside property. I first saw it last weekend. So hours stolen from work are spent choosing tiles, refining kitchen design etc.

As good as any holiday -- and as stressful as any translatlantic journey!

kakalena Oct 27th, 2005 08:32 PM

Florence (and Rome) next week and thanks for all the restaurant comments everyone. I'l try to keep a good journal on them.

Flyboy Oct 27th, 2005 09:16 PM

Taking off for Washington DC tomorrow morning and returning home on Monday; then leaving for a long weekend in Paris on Wednesday, where I will be showing some first-time visitors around a little to get them oriented. I know they will have a wonderful time basing from Rue Jacob and I'm looking forward to seeing their eyes light up! :)

Byrd Oct 28th, 2005 05:40 AM

We got back from Paris and Prague a few days ago, and in Paris had a near-Fodorite-encounter.

Guide Michael Osmond asked how I heard about his guide services, and I, of course, answered "Fodors." When he asked who in particular had recommended him, the only "real name" I could remember was Sally Fowler.

"Well, Sally will be here next week," he said.

What fun it would have been to have met sfowler in person, since I have enjoyed her postings for years , since about 1998, I think.

And, yes, Michael was as knowledgeable and delightful as the gazillion posts about him here report!

Byrd

Byrd Oct 28th, 2005 05:46 AM

Oops! How in the world did I misspell Michael's name? It's "Osman," of course!

Sorry, Michael.

aschie30 Oct 28th, 2005 07:20 AM

Like crefloors, I will be headed to Copenhagen on 12/28. And, I will be headed to the Tivoli on the 29th. That is, assuming that I, too, won't end up in Betty Ford with ThinGorjus by then considering all the post-World Series celebrating I've partaken in. ((D))

crefloors Oct 28th, 2005 07:58 AM

aschie30: where are you flying from? I'm out of SFO and connection at Heathrow to Copenhagen. It's killing me to be in London and not be able to stay. Not enough time or money. Flying British Air.

Mathieu Oct 28th, 2005 08:57 AM

Yes, Tedgale, the Fall colours are at their peak right now, but probably not for much longer- another week if we're lucky. I was in Tremblant at the end of September and the colours had already begun there, while we were still green, so I'm not surprised that you're done in Ottawa.

cigalechanta Oct 28th, 2005 09:06 AM

Scarlett no enabling and abetting! :0
Now pass me a chocolate.

Bon voyage everyone, keep posting to those who will also be away or doing something exciting at home.
