Hi there! My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to the Amalfi Coast in mid-November. Can anyone tell me what the weather is like? I know it is avg 65 degrees which is great but I am concerned about rain! is there a lot? does it tend to blow over quickly or hang all day??

Monica Aug 28th, 2001 10:29 AM

Here's a weather web site that may help you. http://www.wunderground.com. It doesn't show for the Amalfi coast, but you can check for historical weather for Naples.

Meg, here's another web site that you can do a weather search: http://www.worldclimate.com

Bring this to the top.

Hey Monica! Your trip sounds glorious!!! As I mentioned on my e-mail to you the other day, I am traveling with Mom, Sis and niece (a females-in the -family- generational thing...) from Nov 8-17th. It appears I'll be in Rome, at a minimum the first three days, after that, looks like Assisi and Venice!!. Much like yourself, we are still tinkering with various options, one of them taking a packaged tour where all the guided visits are in Spanish. FIRST TIME taking a package tour, but you know what's been going on and it appears the sensible thing to do this time. On that note, we may be in Rome the 10th- you think we can meet at Piazza Navonna for late afternoon gelato?

Maira Sep 8th, 2001 06:45 AM

Mon, never mind, I just re-read your draft itinerary and you are heading to San Gim on the 10th instead. Bummer (for me!!). Well, if plans change and you guys will be in Rome, let me know.

Monica Sep 8th, 2001 07:19 AM

Hi Maira,

We definitely will be in the Tuscany area on the 10th, 11th. We'll most likely visit the Chianti towns, then head to San Gimignano on the 10th (dinner in San G.); then a full day in Siena on the 11th. We are researching things that are open/closed those days (Saturday/Sunday), which may make us switch the days. No, we won't hit Rome at all on this trip. The 12th, we're heading to Viareggio in the a.m.; then to Milan in the evening for our flight home the next day. I guess we'll miss each other as we are starting out in Venice, then Assisi., etc.

My husband and I were in Italy in the summer of 2000 - we mainly stayed in Florence. We rented a car for a couple of days and spent a day in Siena and San Gimignano. While we really enjoyed our stay in Florence, we wished we had stayed at least a day longer in the other two places, particularly Siena. If you haven't visited these places before, you might want to consider having a flexible itinerary.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to say that Dawn and I are still planning to travel to Italy in November. But of course, we will make our final decision later on as we hear about the war situation. Take care!

Judi Sep 21st, 2001 10:12 AM

Hi Monica, we are planning to be there as well. I hope to see you in San Gim!

Monica Sep 21st, 2001 12:53 PM

Hi Judi,

Glad to hear from you! I'll be in touch again when we get closer to our trip. We won't have hotel reservations, so we'll have to figure something out.

Paul Sep 21st, 2001 01:09 PM

Monica, I'm a latecomer to this thread, but thought I'd give it a shot. My wife and I are leaving for Rome on November 3rd. We're spending a few days in Rome and then heading to Tuscany and Umbria for about eight days. The last few days we're staying in Montefalco. The middle part of the trip is still to be decided, although we're likely going to stay somewhere in Chianti. Like you, we're still planning to go, but leave open the possibility of the war situation changing things.

Anyway, if it seems like we'll be at all close, it would great to meet up for dinner or something. Ciao

Hi there,
I've discovered thi site in Agost. If somebody comes in the Cinque Terre(I live in Manarola) contact me. I've lived in Florence for six years and I like very much to meet people from foreign country.
ciao

Cristina Sep 24th, 2001 01:01 AM

Italy in November

Just thought I would let you all know that the 1st and the 2nd are holidays here in Italy. All Saint's Day and the Day of the Dead so many things may be closed on the day you all arrive.

Also, as for Siena, most shops are closed Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday. The museums on the other hand are open these days.

For info on Siena, check out http://www.comune.siena.it and click on the English part (unless you speak Italian of course :-) )

a---z Sep 25th, 2001 12:19 PM

anybody else on track for november? or perhaps rescheduled your trip during this time?

Lily Sep 25th, 2001 01:29 PM

Unfortunately, we have postponed our trip to Italy in November. I could not possibly be more disappointed, but we're hoping to go in February or March if all goes well. This was not my decision, and if it were totally up to me, I would still go. I'm sure everyone will have a fabulous time.

Helen Donegan Sep 25th, 2001 01:36 PM

Hi
I am in Umbria - near Assisi - if anyone needs any help here.
I hope you will all feel very welcome in Italy and enjoy your holiday.

Monica Sep 29th, 2001 06:00 AM

Paul, I can't remember if I emailed you directly! Please let me know.

Eu – No, I won’t be near Cinque Terre. I’m not sure about the others.

Hi Cristina, thanks for the information on Siena. We might visit Siena on Saturday instead of Sunday.

a---z, we are still on for Italy. I have heard from Judi, Julie, Miriam and her husband Oliver. Will you be in Italy too?

Hi Lily, you’ll still have a great trip in Feb/Mar. Maybe we’ll meet on another trip. Take care.

Hello Helen, thank you for your offer. If I have any questions, I’ll email you directly.
Judi Sep 29th, 2001 03:11 PM

Well, Monica, perhaps we can meet for dinner in Siena after the shops close.:-)
Lily, our plans for meeting have been thwarted again; maybe we could have a lunch date in Atlanta.
Helen and Christina, thank you for your kind offers.

Paul Sep 30th, 2001 10:26 AM

monica: no you did not e-mail me directly. Feel free to if you want to try to meet.
