you can also easily reach San G from Siena by bus. The fare was about 3E.

I too am flying to italy tomorrow and will be taking the Eurostar from Rome to Florence and then by Bus to Siena. (i should have booked my flight into Florence instead of Rome....but, now I get to see Rome!)
Does anyone know if the Rapide bus is located near the Eurostar train station? |
Blissgrl,
When you leave the platform go to the right. When you exit the building the bus station willbe to your right. SITA - Firenze - Via Santa Caterina da Siena 15/rTel. 055 211487 Since you are going to be in Rome you could take the bus direct. See http://www.sena.it/ It will take about the same time. Henry |
My timetable to Siena gives the departure point as the Sita bus station on Via Santa Caterina da Siena - it is about a 10 minute walk. I put the directions into Mappy.com and it gave me the following instructions:
http://tinyurl.com/2y74jl I presume you have already booked the train to Florence, otherwise the Bus from Tiburtina station is just as quick, and much cheaper - somebody has already posted the link to the Sena site. |
willit,
The only way it would take ten minutes is if you were dragging a steamer trunk. |
Maybe I exaggerated - Mappy gave the time as 7 minutes, and I added 50% to that to allow for a) Luggage and b) unfamiliarity with the area. There are plenty of buses so missing one is not going to be a great hardship.

If one is renting a car from Sienna for Tuscany and arrives by bus in Sienna, are car rental locations near the bus station?
|
cindywho,
The bus from Florence lets you off at Piazza Gramsci which I think is too far to walk with luggage to any of the rental agencies. Hertz, Avis and europcar are all outside the walls although Hertz and Avis just barely. It is less than 10 euro cab ride to any of the agencies. Henry |
Hi C,
The train might be a better option. If you know the address of your rental agency, you can find it at www.viamichelin.com. You are renting the car before you leave for Italy, aren't you? ((I)) |
taniaroth,
June, 2006 we took a bus from Florence to Siena. The ticket cost was 6,50 euro, and the ride was about one hour in heavy, but moving traffic. It was; however, early morning drive time during the week (Wed.) The scenery, as I recall, wasn't notable, but a pretty countryside. Lunch was at "Antica Trattoria Papei," Piazza del Mercato, 6 - just a short distance from the open-air market. |
Would bus travel be from Florence to Siena be practical on the day of the Palio? Would you reserve bus tickets in advance??
(should this be a separate post? - sorry.) thanks! dina |
