shoes shoes shoes...more questions.

so my most comfortable shoes now are my flip flops made by Crocs. Would i be crazy to wear them in Rome?

You are not crazy!! Hope you dont mind dusty/dirty toes/feet though!
If they are comfortable then wear them.

I grew up in Hawaii, and all we wore was slippers...or so called flip flops here.
I LOVE flippers and had to get used to something covering my toes again when we moved to Cali...
I did buy a pair of comfy sketchers, as well as Easy spirit shoes. I heard that it's very rocky and dirty, so it might be too much to wear slippers.

I love my flip flops but no way would I wear them sightseeing around Rome. First of all, you will be doing tons of walking because the public transportation system is quite inadequate. Then you will be walking over cobblestone streets all day. Even in a pair of really great walking shoes my feet ache after several days of sightseeing in Rome. I could only imagine how they would feel after walking around all day in a pair of flip flops with no support.

Just my thoughts.

If you are comfortable in your flip flops, then wear them. I have no problem wearing mine on cobblestoned streets (but then, I'm used to walk on cobblestones).

mrs. beans wore flip flops her first day in Rome and the next morning her feet hurt so bad that she bought some new shoes.

I still think she knew what she was doing!

Flip flops are just fine. I am sure that they will go well with your tee shirt and shorts. Come on people, show a little class, wear slacks, sleeved shirts and shoes.

Crocs are now on sale in Paris -- for €49 a pair.

by all means take your flip flops - they won't take up much space in the luggage. but take another comfy pair as well - swapping shoes every day can help to relieve any aches and pains - and dan you guarantee you won't suffer from those?

Sure flip flops are fine, but I'd take a couple other pair of shoes or sandals or sneakers also.

Personally I think Your nuts wearing flip flops in Rome. The Sidewalk and streets are dangerous (not including the drivers)uneven sidewalks, cobbled streets (killer for heels)The Roman Women walk around in 4 inch heals and I don't know how they do it.

good Tennis shoes and work boots worked for Me. But I did bring High Heeled boots and regretted wearing them everytime, but I looked good.

Do not reco flip flops in Rome. Sidewalks are very narrow, uneven, sometimes cobblestone - and a lot of sidestreetrs don;t have sidewalks at all - you just walk in the (very narrow) street with the cars. Flip flops don;t give any support, your feet get filthy - and stubbing a toe is not fun.

Realize you will be walking miles every day in an ancient city - not just a few blocks in a park or a mall - or on on wide, clean modern city sidewalks.

It is an interesting psychological phenomenon:

But they are methodically aiming at breaking their necks by wearing inadequate footwear.

When I see tourists balancing with flip-flops over the ruins on Forum Romanum, my heart stands still. As a tour guide, I would reject people wearing flip-flops.

I just don't get beach feet in the city, but that's me, and I agree with others that they give no support and could be dangerous...stubbed toes, twisted ankle. I won't be following you around pointing and the fashion police have retired, so in the end wear what you want to.

One more voice warning don't wear them if you are planning to do a lot of walking. And if you aren't planning to do a lot of walking, you will be missing 90% of the charm of Rome.

Your feet will be filthy by the end of the day and very sore I would think.

Oh please people, there's nothing wrong in wearing flipflops if your feet are used to them. I wear them from April to October in London, including at work, with smart and casual clothes - they can be both stylish and fashionable in the right style.

I agree completely with most of you and Kate, in particular, I wear my Croc or my Clark or my Columbia flip flops everywhere and with most everything - I live in Florida so we also wear them year round - some of my flip flops cost me over $50.00 and on my trip to Europe this summer they will all be in my carry on. At the end of the day, my feet are not ever dirty, and if they get so in Europe, hey, no problem, I shower daily.

I wore flipflops and walked all over Rome... AND for all you nay-sayers my flipflops had kitten heels.
I did ALOT of walking (including along the streets, through the ruins, and up the many, many stairs at the Vatican.
I was absolutely fine, but my feet are trained for these kind of shoes - as that is basically all I wear.
I will admit that my feet were filthy by the time I walked back to the hotel. But the footwashers in the room came in handy for that!
