Flam Train-where to sit?

Taking the trip from Bergen to Oslo and taking the Flam train from Flam to Myrdal. Since I can choose my seat, which is the best side to sit on for the most spectacular views?

On the left side; we did and it was the one that gave you the best views on the trip to Myrdal. We went in April and it wasn't crowded so we could have moved around if we wanted to do so.

Yeah..left going down or right going up..best view of the falls and the "Lady in Red," singing an aria for you. Train stops briefly at the falls.

Lady in Red ...actually my long lost sister who has finally reached her long sought niche in life.

If you wish, glance at the Norway pics, which also feature Flam, the fjords, Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, The Lofotens, Tromso, Black glacier, Bodo, etc. A rewarding month of travel.

You can tell it was quite chilly in August.

Debbie and Tower say the opposite! Train zig-zags up to Myrdal so both sides get views and there really isn't a lot in it - and since it stops at the falls and everybody gets out for the view that dosen't matter either.

I'd have to agree with dyoll. It really doesn't matter that much.

DebitNM Feb 18th, 2016 11:09 AM

Yes, tower and I are sitting opposite one another!

I liked being able to look ahead and see the tracks and where we were heading. As stated, you get to see the falls up close when you stop, so seeing them from window wasn't too critical.

I loved being able to see the little village in the valley as you approach the end of the line and also being able to see the fjord as it comes into view. YMMV

Thank you. I just like to have whatever little edge I can and since I can book so far out, like to sit in the best spot. Thanks again everyone.

There are no numbered reserved seats, first come, first served, when it comes to seating.

jan47ete Feb 23rd, 2016 03:12 PM

Dyoll--are you sure? I looked online and was able to choose the seat. Are there more than one company travelling that route?

historytraveler Feb 23rd, 2016 03:24 PM

Are you sure you are looking at the Flam to Myrdal section and not the Bergen to Oslo route? I didn't think you could reserve a seat for the Flamsbana unless in a group of 10 or more. Perhaps it's changed.

Fodorite018 Feb 23rd, 2016 03:36 PM

As of October, there were no assigned seats from Flam.
