First time to Italy

My wife and I will be going to Italy in the beginning of June. Of course we want to get the cheapest rooms available (yet safe) where we at least have our own room to ourselves. Can anyone recommend a hostel, convent, or albergo in either Rome, Venice, Milan, (or any small town too..like Assisi, Siena, etc.)?

We thought about renting a car, but it seems like I would need to more brave to do so. I hear the train pass is the way to go. We are starting from Rome, then maybe see Naples or Sorrento, up to a town or two on the way to Venice, then either Florence or Milan, then back to Rome for last couple of days. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated :)

How long is this trip?

Have you booked your flights?

What is the maximum you are willing to spend each day for accommodations?

You have left this very late and may have trouble finding anything available.

Suggest you:

do a search here for posts

check out venere.com

Get busy with emails and faxes ASAP.

Or you may find that the cheapest rooms available are $300 per night.

My wife and I have been to Italy a couple of times. Last year we went to Rome and we had a great time there. I have posted a trip report with pictures and links on my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com/rome_italy.htm .

A couple of years back we went to Italy for a week and we went to Milan and Venice and I have posted a trip report on http://gardkarlsen.com/italy_milan.htm :-)

I hope that you can find some useful information there. Get in touch if you have any questions.

Hi A,

>I hear the train pass is the way to go. <

Highly unlikely.

Check prices at www.trenitalia.com vs the railpass.
