favourite posts?

As someone has just posted about the forums becoming bland, and following on from a post on the US forum, what are your favourite posts? I love the recent one about ways of passing time on long flights. I also liked the one about what makes a perfect travelling partner. On the Asia forum I liked Colins report called From Bangor to Bangkok. <BR>BTW I have found an enormous amount of useful info on this forum.

Wendy Jul 28th, 2002 07:04 AM

My all time favourite is "Nightmares, faux paus and other practical advice". It is hilarious - I just found it again and had another laugh but didn't want to top it incase it annoys people. but I notice some other older posts being brought up again, perhaps in response to your post?

Betsy Jul 28th, 2002 07:13 AM

Anything that Elvira writes. Her travel perspective is both wise and hilarious. Awesome.

dani Jul 28th, 2002 07:17 AM

Have to agree with Elvira. I also got hooked on the Nancy posts last year- you know the ones about her trip to italy and then her husband announcing the split. It was better than any soap. (I'm also pleased to know that she is doing fine now!)

sue Jul 28th, 2002 07:20 AM

Wendy<BR>have just been reading the Nightmare posts- I missed the original posting. Have to agree that it is hilarious.<BR>I liked the one about how much to tip the pilot( tipping is a subject that is controversial isn't it?)

John Jul 28th, 2002 07:45 AM

can't admit to liking the Nancy posts(!) but i liked the tipping the pilot one. also Best Street Food in the World- auite an old post but worth rereading. I may even it bring it back up!

Graeme Jul 28th, 2002 07:53 AM

Not on this but on the US forum- How much to tip on a $1000 check- waiter chased us out to complain. It is fascinating and really amusing. It had over 200 responses.

John Burkus Jul 28th, 2002 08:01 AM

My favourite recent post was the one that asked the serious question: Is it OK for my wife to order for me in France?<BR>I also enjoy the posts that start off as being serious and then morph into the absurd.

Bruce Jul 28th, 2002 08:06 AM

someone should really bring up the "nightmares" post again.I've just spent the last half hour reading it. Also notice that Wes made several very funny contributions to it!

sss Jul 28th, 2002 08:36 AM

Bruce<BR>You got your wish! I have another favourite I've just found again-"taking food from breakfast for lunch"

foodlover Jul 28th, 2002 08:56 AM

Best street food in the World- makes you drool just reading it!

bill Jul 28th, 2002 09:14 AM

topped my favorite one- difficult traveling companions

RB Jul 28th, 2002 10:32 AM

Just to say that I have used up most of my sunday afternoon reading the favourite posts! I even went on to the US site. Great thread! Particularly liked the Difficult Travel Companions.

Art Jul 28th, 2002 11:04 AM

Thought that the Vikings in Scandinavia was one of the funniest ones. Seems to have been deleted. Can not find it.

Uncle Sam Jul 28th, 2002 11:06 AM

I liked the one about "How much to tip the pilot"<BR><BR>US

Elsa Jul 28th, 2002 11:27 AM

Art, you're right about the post re the Vikings in Scandinavia. Wonder why that one was deleted?<BR><BR>What about the thread re the travels with Betty and Bob?

genisis Jul 28th, 2002 11:35 AM

I liked the one about bringing a monkey, and the toilet one, but for actual events Elvira wins.

Marilyn Jul 28th, 2002 02:14 PM

I have laughed til I cried over the "archetypical" entries on the "I was drunk the night mother got out of prison" (or something like that). You can top that all you like.

again Jul 28th, 2002 02:42 PM

Marilyn<BR>happy to oblige!

Mary Jul 28th, 2002 08:02 PM

I liked the how much to tip the pilot one, and also the "what do you do with the bidet" one. After reading this post, will look for the Nightmare one!

karl Jul 29th, 2002 04:31 AM

The saga of Herb and Clara is great. I think is called "My Trip To London, Part 1 of 286" or something like that. It went on for weeks and had some great humor. I think it is still out there if someone wants to dreg it up.

sara Jul 29th, 2002 04:52 AM

I used to like following the Beth Anderson posts, but then she quit posting and we never found out what happened to her.

elvira Jul 29th, 2002 05:00 AM

Clara and Herb, any of the limerick posts, and the Haggis in a Tube thread. Oh and the Tony and Ellen thread that somehow got morphed into gutted beanie babies.<BR><BR>For actual real info, the Wes Fowler post on pubs in London, the post of offbeat things to do in Paris by Vincent and Gregoire, and What Took Your Breath Away.

Angie Jul 29th, 2002 06:33 AM

My favorite started -- I'm going to hell in a few years... It was hilarious! Some people on this board are so witty. There was also the one initiated by Darla from Texas. Very funny also.

sandi Jul 29th, 2002 06:54 AM

My fav was one that had a question about fawlty towers...can't remember exactly what the title was. It spwned a slew of month python-isms as responses. It was quite funny.

Pamela Jul 29th, 2002 09:38 AM

I enjoyed the travelogue by "Lucy", it was enteraining. Those are the threads I read most often, the ones that show a person's personality.

sandy Jul 29th, 2002 05:55 PM

the one about the funniest tourist

Eva Jul 29th, 2002 06:13 PM

Hands down - Lucy!!! Where are you Lucy ... have you heard from your Italian gentlman?

Maria Jul 29th, 2002 06:36 PM

My favorite was the Kindness of Strangers one where people told wonderful stories of how people in other lands treated them with such kindness.

babelicious Jul 29th, 2002 06:39 PM

Mr. Hanky Bickers, the alter ego of that pompous ass Rex Bickers.

xxx Jul 29th, 2002 06:51 PM

One of my all-time favorite single posts, from the thread about when you did/did not need to know the local language.<BR><BR>Author: aaa ([email protected])<BR>Date: 11/06/2000, 08:49 am<BR>Message: Many moons ago, someone I went to school with got hopelessly lost in Northern Greece. Eventually, a bus happened by. He got on, and found that he couldn't understand a word the bus driver said. However, the benefits of a Classical education came to the fore, and he asked, in his finest Ancient Greek, "whither does this chariot go?" He was met with instant and uproarious laughter from the whole assembled company; however, once the bus driver had dried his eyes, he gave him a straight single word answer he could understand, took the fare, and all was well.<BR><BR>

xxx Jul 29th, 2002 06:55 PM

another all-time favorite, from funniest tourist thread:<BR><BR><BR>Author: ger ([email protected])<BR>Date: 07/16/2001, 05:46 pm<BR>Message: When I was a student, I worked a couple of summers on check-in at Dublin airport - it was a laugh a minute! <BR><BR>The most unpopular flight to work was the one to Lourdes as many of the passengers had rarely set foot outside their local town, nevermind country! One day as I closed off the flight, a woman came running toward the desk screaming something about a late train. I calmed her down and called the boarding gate. No problem, I told her, the flight was still there and they would hold it for her. "Do I check-in here?", she asked. When I answered YES she leaped up onto the moving baggage belt and dashed toward the hole. But for a quick-thinking collegue who hit the emercancy button, she would have been lost to us forever down the chute. <BR><BR>Another passenger had packed enough food for the entire week as he didn't fancy eating that "french muck". His baggage was seriously overweight and I told him he would have to leave some of it behind . He pciks up this enormous golf umberella and says "Sure, if I open it it twill be lighter!" There ws NO anwer to that! <BR><BR>

dani Jul 29th, 2002 06:58 PM

Sickofthe Jul 30th, 2002 02:07 PM

I liked the one that didn't have a response from Uncle Sam or Stellarossa. Not sure where it went though...

Rachel Jul 30th, 2002 08:35 PM

The one that I can't forget but wish I could is the post by someone named Lisa-"Just back from London, Paris, Venice". Then all she seems to talk about is the red light districts in each city and then says she hates London, hates Venice, but loved Paris!
