Whathello, thinking of you and your countrymen today.

Menachem, I am so glad you caught the bus today!

Having worked at an airport for a number of years I can tell you the people working at the gates feel very vulnerable. After the Glasgow attack they were even more worried. The baggage claim area was the same way. You can walk through those doors with guns or anything in your suitcases or back packs. We had security for many years that patrolled out front and the county got tired of footing the bill for extra sheriffs so hired guys with neon vest to tell people to move along. People would still park and come inside to wave off their people. I can see things stepping up but other than the two gloves on the men they looked like normal pax so whoever was monitoring the security tvs probably didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.
We are getting conflicting stories here in the states. Three mormon missionaries, a Lt Colonel with NATO and his family were all injured but nothing more. Phillyfan, that is a bit scary. Did immigration just abandoned post? I am surprised they let them off the plane.

Such a horrible event. The people of Belgium and their friends and families are in my thoughts and prayers.

"It needs more Muslims to stand up and say "Not in our Name""

Responses like these always make me a little sad, because that's happening already, but it's also underreported in mainstream media outlets.

And then: yes, there were non muslims demonstrating against the US led coalition's disastrous Iraq campaign but nowhere near enough to stop support for it politically.

How many have really paid attention to the two attacks last week in Turkey?

Same as with the influx of migrants, who ultimately add to the ISIS WMD supply here, because they come expecting streets paved with gold, jobs for the taking and empty homes waiting to be filled.>>

not to mention the radicalisation of those who are sent back as not qualifying as refugees.

this too: i'm involved with a number of groups who provide aid to refugees, both in Greece and in NL: it's not that spectacular, it's a kind of exchange, let's get to know each other thing, where we go and have coffee somewhere or hang out and talk. Listening is all I can do. All these people are people like you and me. There's a lot of very cynical political stuff going on, with a swing towards a nativism with decidedly fascist undertones. Trump is catching up, but in NL we're already 5 years ahead in that respect. Scandinavia: more or less the same, Germany and France: getting there.

The UK is lagging far behind IMO - we are doing nothing like enough.

Good for you, menachem, for doing more than your bit.

It was mentioned today on cable news that Belgium gives liberal benefits to migrants - one reason they flock there.I applaud that but think now the attitude will change - lamentably - a few bad apples should not spoil the whole barrel but yes Trumpism no doubt will gain traction in Europe even more than it does now.

@hetismij, about catching the bus

yes weird. i did it on a whim.

second time something like this happens in my life, the other one was the attack on the Machane Yehuda market in Jlem, years ago. Had done my shopping there, left a bit early because I had forgotten things I wanted to get at the supermarket on King George. Turned the corner and the blast happened.

I thought that was scary, too, and I don't know. All I know is that he left the airport, without getting his luggage or going through customs.

Sending light, love and positive thoughts to Belgium and to all those impacted. I hate these senseless attacks and wish Belgium's citizens all the best. I am sure this is a difficult time.

>I don't know what the future holds for Europe <

My mother said the same thing after the IRA bombed King's Cross Station in 1973.

And then Brenda shook Martin McGuiness' hand.

So you can't predict the future.

All of this because some fools believe in an angry, vengeful god who does not exist.

If only men worshipped flying teapots!

Bernadette Devlin, Ian Paisley, Anjem Choudary, Bibi Netanyahu, all terrorists.
