The most annoying thing about that pop-up was the way it interrupted a post I was entering. I say "was" because I got rid of it by using a feature of Zone Alarm.

It's driving me doolally (er?).

I don't blame Expedia. This is down to Fodors. I understand the need for advertising but.........

taylor_made Mar 25th, 2004 09:16 AM

There are other ways for Expedia to advertise here. This pop-up is simply annoying !

No way will I buy anything from Expedia !

auntgrapes Apr 6th, 2004 01:49 PM

The pop-up is maddening. Wish it would go away !

I had a pop-up from VIP flights fill up my entire screen while I was on Expedia and had just clicked to complete a flight transaction. There was no way to x out of the screen and I had no idea if the transaction had gone through. Had to end up calling Expedia. So aggravating!

francophile03 Apr 7th, 2004 06:00 PM

Count me in: I agree that the pop-up is more than annoying. Now we cannot close it at will like before. I can't read the post until it clears out.

I have had it with the stupid pop up ads. I had to log back in for some reason tonight and I couldn't even do that until expedia got out of my face. I don't know about you, but they haven't made any points with me this month!

grace, if you ever have a full screen window again that you can't x out of, this should work if you are using a windows PC. Hold your ALT key down and press the tab key. You'll see a pop up box showing you your open programs and let you choose which one you wish to go to.

I've never had popups on Fodors. I use Netscape. Perhaps that's the reason. I do get popups with the NY Times though.

auntgrapes Apr 7th, 2004 08:40 PM

Son of a gun! I logged in on Netscape and not one pop-up the entire time I've been on the site. Good news. Thanks Sal B.

Add American Express to the list of transgressors.
If I knew a phone number or e-mail address of someone (not a flunky, but a wheel) who would listen to the purchase=avoidance action these popups beget, I would use it (as would others). Don't you techies out there know how to find such things?

Rich Apr 8th, 2004 05:30 PM

The hilarious thing is that just a minute ago I clicked on the Expedia banner . . took me to a webpage that said in bold letters:

This offer is no longer available.

What an advertising ploy! ! !

If you download the Google toolbar and set up the pop-up blocker you won't see this pop-up

klondike Apr 9th, 2004 05:02 AM

Expedia isn't making any fans here either.

DH's computer isn't as hi-tech as the one I use, and it was a pain the other night when I was Fodoring on it. I will have to pass the tips on to him. Thanks!

sheila Apr 12th, 2004 02:04 PM

Right! That's it! I've had it! the bloody thing keeps interrupting me when I'm typing. It's got to go!!

i_am_kane Apr 12th, 2004 04:54 PM

I'm using MSN to access Fodors, and I get the Expedia pop-up almost every time. I do have a Pop-Up Blocker, but this is the ONLY pop-up it isn't blocking.

I'm running out of patience with this pop-up. I thought I could wait it out and it would magically disappear. We're talking months now. Fooled me.

Dlemma Apr 17th, 2004 09:29 AM

I've found that for some reason, when I use Netscape 7.1 I don't get the annoying Expedia "roll-over" ad. No Spiderman thingy either. However, when I try to post, I get a blank page instead of the page that lets me log in and write a reply.

If I use IE (with the Google toolbar as a popup blocker) I get the horrible Expedia ads and also Spiderman. But, I can post. So, for now I'll just use Netscape unless I have something to say. (which doesn't happen very often!)

I hope that all of you who are annoyed with these rollover ads let Expedia and Fodors know what a pain they are. I realize that ads are a necessary evil, but they can try to keep the annoyances to a mininum.

Betsy Apr 17th, 2004 12:01 PM

No Expedia or Spiderman here (yet), but that Northwest plane that takes off across the top of EVERY page is driving me nuts! ENOUGH ALREADY!

April Apr 17th, 2004 12:51 PM

I just saw the Spiderman one. Like I want a big, ugly spider web on my screen. There's advertising and then there's just plain stupidity. Personally, I will avoid Expedia and am getting so I don't want to use this site as much either.

elisabet Apr 17th, 2004 06:49 PM

Try adaware.com. I mentioned the *rollover* problem to my husband and he seems to have fixed it...although I have to admit, I won't be surprised to find that expedia or fodors will find a way to circumvent this. Adaware.com takes a few minutes to download--time well spent, I would say!
