Expedia pop-up
 

I have been increasingly irritated by an Expedia pop up everytime I clicked on a thread on this board for about a week. I had to just wait for it to go away, no close box. Anyway, today it is gone! Hope this is forever!

It is annoying and it's still there.

Me tto! All these pop ups are ruining my net surfing! I vowed I would NEVER click on these annoying pains in the rear! Anybody have any solutions?

My solution was the same as yours. I never do business at a firm that uses popup ads and I don't link to websites that have them.

But if you switch to Netscape 7.1 as your browser, you can set it to block popups and then just easily allow then at sites where they are needed.

And I was thinking that it is a "roll-over", not a pop-up - - subtle distinction, one might easily argue... and just as annoying, as it is difficult to avoid "rolling over it".

I would second Keith's notion...switch to a new version of Netscape (or even better) to Mozilla which Netscape is based on. They got an excellent pop-up blocker as well as lots of other nifty features.

Rex- "roll-over", not a "pop-up" Yeah, it does sort of roll in, not pop. There is an even worst one about a spy camera. Even if you click the X to close, it goes on for about 4 more. I would like to think THAT is illegal. So, enough complaining, it's free.

Yes, it's not a pop-up that pop-up stoppers stop. It certainly is annoying, though.

Just click to thte right of it ..where you can just bearly see the jump to the last post and it disappears.

It might not help, but I would write Expedia about your annoyance (and I share it and I have used them in the past) and tell them they are losing business.

My Norton Internet Security and Antivirus program includes a banner/pop up stopper that , so far , has banished the Expedia ad you are talking about.
I truly dislike pop ups and if I had to look at one every time I clicked a thread, I would be more than annoyed.
But I see Elaine's point about ads helping to keep the Forums available to us.
I guess if I HAD to I could handle a banner ad that appeared ONE time when I first accessed the Forum site .

Well, the ad is enough to keep me from trying Expedia again. I gave up on checking them quite a while ago because they *never* had the best value for anything I was interested in. This type of ad makes me think they are getting desperate.

Anyway, if it hangs around much longer I may quit using this site entirely. Noxious ad techniques will only persist if we let them. It may be time to move on to a different board.

It bugs me too, but I think it's what allows us to have this forum for free.

I am sure that their advertising pays for this site, but that pop up is annoying! I'm not what they thought it would accomplish, but so far I think it has only ticked people off.

My freebie download 'popupstopper' works to prevent this 'pop down?' on my home pc.

It does however slow down loading because as always the site is geared to download the ads before the content.

I have given up surfing at the office between jobs because of this 'feature' and the fact that I am not allowed to mess with the settings at the office.

The upshot is that I only check in occasionaly when at home rather than when I am at the office.

If Fodors aim is to reduce traffic on the site, they are succeding with me.

It's there, again. Sorry, just had to vent.

At least the Royal Carribean pop-up has a "Close" button you can click on.
