danlev - yes that probably would be cheaper than flying considering the saving on a hotel cost and also save time by going by night - flying inevitably takes a half a day or more - Schlepping out to the airport - getting there before the plane time deadline - late planes perhaps - waiting for baggage - getting back into town, etc. - A whole lot harder than just sleeping and waking up in central Paris.

Couples can make it a romantic trip - you can bring any food or beverage including booze onboard - my friend claims his first child was conceived on a night train to Venice during his honeymoon trip!
