Eurorail help with classes please
I am going to be traveling from London to Paris in December, and I do not understand the different classes on the Eurotrain. I want to go first class. What is the difference in all the classes? Rail Europe advertises First Premium Adult $320
(London-Paris route only)

First Class Full Fare $223
Standard Class Full Fare $159

First Class Leisure $175
Standard Class Leisure $111

Any help appreciated.
Mary
<<Rail Europe advertises First Premium Adult $320>>

Wow. That must be for folks with a lot of money to burn.

From www.easyjet.com

Thursday 05 December,

flight 283

departs London Luton at 05:45,
arrives Paris Charles de Gaulle at 08:05

web fare 5.40 GBP

with all taxes and fees, it comes to 17.50 GBP.

I realize that depending on your precise starting point in London and your specific destination in Paris that the Eurostar can be faster, measuring hotel door to hotel door. Probably not much more than 45 minutes faster in most cases. And sometimes it will be slower to go by train, especially if you don't go to the airport more than 45-60 minutes pre-flight.

I just can't imagine overpaying like this to ride the train.
Well to each his own, I always say. But some of us really don't like schlepping luggage on trains and busses so adding the $50 or so for the taxi to Luton and about the same for the taxi to Paris, I'll stick with the train, thank you. It isn't always about saving a few bucks. Comfort and convenience are important to some of us.

Thank you to those who replied. It is my husband's birthday so we are going first class. I do not understand the difference between First Class Full Fare and First Class Leisure. In service that is. I understand the money difference.
Thanks again,
Mary

There is no difference in those two, just two different prices for the same thing. Sort of like getting a "super saver" we used to call them for coach on an airplace and sitting next to someone who paid full fare. It just depends on how and when you book if you can get the special leisure fare.
|
Mary: here's the difference:

Full Fare: Fully refundable and exchangeable -- refund can be performed up to 2 months after the travel date.

Leisure Fare: Available to all travelers, this fare is 50% refundable up to 3 days before train date of departure no refund available after that date. May be exchanged once before departure. Exchange must be performed in Europe.

To xxx (airone v, right?)

<<some of us really don't like schlepping luggage on trains and busses...>>

<<I'll stick with the train, thank you...>>

i do not understand the contradiction of this answer.
Jules answer is, of course, more complete than mine. Yes, there are different restrictions with the two fares just like between a "super saver" and full fare coach seat on an airline. But the service is identical once you get there.
