Landshut?? Don't think so. It's a standard small German town. Not that exciting.

Type in Iphofen (Bavaria)on google and you will find a marvelous trip report. I stumbled across the site by accident and used the advice. We stayed there 3 days as a base and really loved it.

For off the beaten path though, try the Maramures area of Romania. this is Europe of 80 or 100 years ago. But, if you are what I perceive to be the more typical user of this board (wanting fancy hotels and restaurants with all the comforts and conveniences of home) forget it. Romania has no idea of how to handle more upscale tourists. BUT, IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRIP GO TO ROMANIA. It's is our all time favorite.

Just saw "untouched pristine landscape" in your post. Need to clarify. Romania has absolutely gorgeous scenery, but a huge problem with trash disposal, and they know nothing about recycling. The most disappointing part of our visit was seeing the beautiful countryside in some areas strewn with trash.

I shouldn't get defensive about this - - but why would someone anonymously make this claim...

<<Landshut?? Don't think so. It's a standard small German town. Not that exciting.>>

...disputing my listing of this lovely little town.

"Exciting" was not one of the criteria - - in fact, it would just about fall under anti-criteria.

KJ said <<relatively 'untouristed' & full of original charm>> - - Landshut absolutely fits this bill.
