I’m heading to Europe in two weeks and have a little over 7K will that be enough for 16 days for one person?

Where are you visiting?

Does that include airfare?

Assuming US$ 7k is very generous.

But one would think you have already booked your hotels so should know how much you have left over to spend per day.

when you say you have a little over 7K are you talking U$? does it include airfare?
are you intending to bring it all with you in cash?

[a very bad idea, using credit cards for large items like hotel bills and drawing cash from an ATM as you need it would be a lot safer and probably get you a better exchange rate]

Assuming the answers to my questions are yes, no, and no, it should be more than adequate. For 16 days [is that 16 nights?] it works out at $437.50 per day. Even if you pay $200 per day for accommodation, it will leave you with more than $200 per day for food, transport and excursions.

What currency?

Where are you going?

What sort of accommodations have you booked?

Will you be taking trains or planes once you're there?

Do you plan to visit museums and venues that cost money?

What sort of eating do you envision?

No one can answer this question as posed.

Using AirBnB that vas is aside also. So the 7k is for spending and trains.

Sort of like pulling teeth here (we don't charge by the word here) -- where are you going? Also airbnb is illegal in a few places.

If you just mean trains and miscellaneous spending money of course that is enough -- unless you are taking the Orient Express.

Yes many factors -types of accommodations, ways of feeding yourself; how much travel you do and where and when you go.

But $17K US over $400/day certainly is enough for most folks and that's good hotels, restaurants, etc. airbnbs would be much lower - say $200 a day without pinching pennies - also consider youth hostels if young enough to enjoy them.

Trains are great - check www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com for lot on planning rail trip.

I probably spend about US$200 a day in Europe for everything but my airfare. In some big cities, I may spend a little more as hotels cost more. Basically, probably around US$75 a day for stuff other than a hotel.

Thanks Christina. I’m not really a drinker but will enjoy a glass of wine here or there. Mainly interested in museums and landmarks but hoping see a play or something out of the ordinary for this time of year. I like the symphony and jazz style music.

Well, since you haven't chosen to tell us where you're going it's a lost cause trying to make recommendations.

AirbnB is illegal in quite a few European cities now.

People on this board are from all over the world, so it wasn't just some "smart guy" who guessed you were talking about US dollars.

In between jobs. Landing in London was going to Ireland then heading over to Europe for remainder of days. I really don’t have a set time to return but was at least 16-20 days

And yes Airbnb is illegal in multiple cities while the Netherlands and the U.K. Are somewhat ok with it.

Not in Amsterdam -- almost totally illegal there.

airbnb is 'illegal' in Paris but they claim it's their largest market. Oxymoronic? (Not saying to stay in illegal airbnbs - look for the correct type of registration number - I think 134 digits for ones that are legal - consuslt Paris Tourism web site I guess.) But on your budget you need not need to use airbnbs.

Gracias palenque!!! None the less I’ll research while I’m there. Not really in a rush regardless when I arrive. I’ll see what I can and whatever I don’t well there is always a next time. I don’t mind a regular hotel chain but I was Preferring a bed and breakfast type hotel or hostel but it isn’t really a must.

@janisj 16 days is what I was thinking. For 7k but my schedule or time is flexible.

You should have a return ticket booked before you travel.

I do have a return ticket booked. Lol that doesn’t mean I need to abide by it. Like I said I’ll see what i see. 7k was spending money i have my incidentals set aside just in case of an emergency. I’m old enough to figure things out on the fly. Not to mention being a Los Angeles native for 30 years I hardly imagine anything will surprise me.
