Ja, sehr gut!
I plan to leave soon though. I'll check back tomorrow. |
I'm out of ideas at this time. If DT you're back, please feel free to post a clue, or anyone else who has a clue to post.
|
OK, here's one (sort of similar to a clue provided by DT awhile back):
This palace, a UNESCO world heritage site, has a Chinese teahouse in its garden. Built in the 18th century in the Rococo style, it has quite a few Chinese figures on the outside of the teahouse playing "Chinese" instruments. 9 letters, with "n" in 3rd position. "n" taken from Nachtmusik. |
Would this be the palace in Nanping?
|
No. The palace is in Europe.
|
Ooops! Duh....I actually found a few but was looking for that 3rd "n" :) Ah! It's SANSOUCI isn't it?!? (Relating earlier to our Frederick the Great and Voltaire discussion).
|
Exactly!
I was very amused by the Chinese figures and their so-called "chinese" instruments - which look nothing like real chinese music instruments! |
I actually go there regularly, as my sister lives in Berlin. It's one of our favorite day trips/outings, I have visited all the palaces and we usually have a picnic lunch on the expansive grounds. It is very pretty and "French" for the stoic Germans. Frederick the Great installed vineyards upright into terraced landscape as you go up the steps into Sansouci -- he was so clever!
I will post my clue later on, as I am leaving work now. |
These two ancient rulers (ruler 1=6 letters, 3rd letter is "A" from Sansouci; ruler 2=7 letters) were both born in this country (5 letters, 5th letter is "N" from Sansouci).
The latter of the two was famous, among other things, for numerous buildings and monuments, one of which forms a boundary in this country (8 letters, 2nd letter is "C" from Sansouci). |
Trajan and Hadrian
born in Spain boundary is Hadrian's Wall in Scotland Minor quibble, Huitres, Scotland is not really a "country." :-) |
DT, if you're reading this, feel free to post a clue.
|
111op: You're right...I have always thought of Scotland as a country but realize that it is part of Great Britain. You or DT are next with the clue!
|
That's ok. I think that a lot of people find me annoyingly precise (maybe anal :-) ).
Of course this whole discussion inspired me to give this easy clue: Clue: This island (10 letters, 5th = "n") enjoys some autonomy but is not independent and belongs to this country (7 letters). |
Is the island in Europe?
|
I think so.
Don't think too hard. |
I'll go with Kuressaare (island) and Estonia (country)??
|
Hint: You may want to get a map and look at it. The answer should be obvious.
|
oops, no "N" sorry.
|
No. Lewis -- you need to read the clue again. :-)
|
Oops -- I lied. Apparently there're multiple islands -- but one the map it sure looks like there's only one.
Forgive me. :-) |
