Heart breaker, why did they take Rooney out? Dang it.

RM67 Jun 11th, 2016 01:30 PM

Courage mes amis!

annhig Jun 11th, 2016 01:37 PM

merci, mais je crois que c'est deja trop tard.

RM67 Jun 11th, 2016 02:02 PM

ce n'est pas fini jusqu a la grand dame chante!

tripplanner001 Jun 11th, 2016 04:10 PM

C'est vrai!

tripplanner001 Jun 11th, 2016 05:44 PM

USA just advanced into the quarterfinals!! What a nailbiter.

rialtogrl Jun 11th, 2016 10:49 PM

I am in Venice... quite a few bars have put televisions outside. For last Friday's game, the only places in my 'hood to watch were the Irish pubs and the sports bar Inishark. So I was glad to see lots more places showing the game last night.

Tomorrow night will be fun when Italy plays, but my money is on Spain (literally) and I will be watching that match too.

There's a great article about the Albanian team in the June issue of the British Airways mag I read on the way here. So I picked them as my long shot, and what a long shot it is.

annhig Jun 12th, 2016 12:29 AM

Go USA - what was the score?

tripplanner001 Jun 12th, 2016 03:30 AM

1-0, and we played most of the second half down one man.

Looking forward to Turkey-Croatia and Germany-Ukraine today!

annhig Jun 12th, 2016 04:28 AM

well done USA!

similar to the Irish rugby team who played with one man down for most of the match and still beat SA by 6 points. [i know that you're keen on rugby, TP!]

tripplanner001 Jun 12th, 2016 04:50 AM

Ann, when is rugby season? I'm thinking perhaps I can catch a game when I'm down under in December and January.

willit Jun 12th, 2016 06:10 AM

Trying to Multitask (impossible for anyone with a Y Chromosome). Have the football on one monitor, the cricket on the second. 5Live commentary on the radio. Missing everything important!

RM67 Jun 12th, 2016 06:45 AM

I sympathise Willit - I'm doing the same but with the football and Location Location Location...

Tripplanner - you'd be fine here catching a rugby match between December and Jan but I'm not sure about OZ where it will be summer at that time of year.

Rugby is essentially a winter game as is football though of course the main championships are usually played in the summer. I haven't been able to find exactly dates but so far as i can see the rugby season starts in Oz in about March and finishes in October time.

You could always go and see a cricket match!

Willit, what are you going to do when the Grand Prix starts???

willit Jun 12th, 2016 08:04 AM

annhig - Ignore it. I used to be a fan, but F1 lost it's attraction years ago (probably about the time of Senna vs Prost)

Actually, I need to go and do something that doesn't involve "pigging out" on sports coverage - real life perhaps.

tripplanner001 Jun 12th, 2016 08:41 AM

Drat. Even football - or soccer as we call it - is played as a summer sport, along with baseball. I suspect it's due to the number of other sports competing for attention in the winter - American football, basketball, and now hockey.

annhig Jun 12th, 2016 08:56 AM

sorry, TP. It'll just have to be the cricket then!

RM67 Jun 12th, 2016 10:48 AM

Confession: I lost interest a bit and played Candy Crush Saga during the NI match.

annhig Jun 12th, 2016 11:27 AM

You're forgiven, RM. I only caught the end of it on the radio and it sounded dire.

willit Jun 12th, 2016 11:30 AM

Still playing RM67? I'm quite enjoyong the GER vs UKR game
