Euro currency. Available yet?
When will the Euro be available. It will be very nice not to have to exchange money at each country I visit. I am planning a Western European trip after the Agritechnica in Hannover in November.

Thanks, Bill

Bill,
The Euro will not go into general circulation and replace national currencies until January 2003. It is presently used only in large financial transactions between international banks. What you may encounter is postings of prices both in the national currency and in Euros, particularly when shopping, though the transactions themselves will be in the national currency.

That EuroDollar - that's the name by the way - wont be used in all european countries. For example, it will be used in France, Italy, Spain, and some other select countries...but not in England. You will still have to do a currency exchange my friend - and they're still debating the issue, because they want to improve the currency...but they dont know how it'll settle here. They come in bills of 10, 20, etc. up to 50 I think. I read this information in an Awake! Magazine, and can find it for you if you need more information.

The currency will not be called the "EuroDollar," no matter how appealing the notion may be to persons whose countries have a dollar currency. It's just the euro, little e.

|
For any trivia buffs:

A "Eurodollar" is a U.S. dollar denominated deposit in a bank outside of the U.S.

Thanks, Brian! You're my favorite banker.

If you are going to Germany, there should not be any problems paying in Euro, it is now only T-chq available, but you will receive DM for your change. Everywhere quotes the price in both euro and local currency now.
