I hope europe has taken the well meaning suggestions of most of the posters here, decided how to handle the dilemma, and moved on to other things.

What is all the blathering about Dr. Al?

Lisa, thanks for your reply.

Huh, do allow me to explain my strange custom. Before I help myself to another's property, I ask permission. And yes, I was taught this at a very young age. I appreciate habits may differ.

Sue, please disregard the anonymous (of course!) post teasing you.

I think you explained your position quite clearly - you DID have specific conversations with these people beforehand, and they still managed to "abuse the system". You mentioned you'd be uncomfortable but would try dealing with the situation with humor next time. Well done.

In europe the prices are a little cheaper for wine and also consider the split ( 1/2 )bottles they yeild about 1 3/4 glasses each for two and are very pouplar in europe so that may be a good way. maybe recommend it to your friends with the expensive taste. In Italy always go with the house its what the real Italians drink . I wish that the half bottle were more widely avalible in the states try it out befoere you go
Asking permission before taking something that is not your's is not strange at all. I learned that lesson at a young age as well.

What I find odd are the games you test your friends with if they betray your trust by eating more pretzels than they said they would.

Dr. Al,
Love your answers! Why don't you post more?

S,

Lighten up. This forum can always use a little humour.
