A few weeks ago my United flight from Chicago was cancelled and we didn't find this out until we got to the airport. Because we had e-tickets we were in a much shorter line to check in. Our tickets were electronically transferred to American Airlines in minutes. When we went to check in at American we also were in a very short line (one or two people ahead of us) instead of the long winding line for people with paper tickets. As a result, we were on a flight that arrived around the same time as our United flight would have arrived. A man with a paper ticket in the same situation did not make the American Airlines flight because he had to wait in the long line for the paper ticket. Having an e-ticket was a tremendous advantage in this particular situation.
