Come on gang, no books? no food? no adventures? No carnivale stories? I'm in the middle of my second Kurt Wallender mystery -- thanks for the recommendation! Confession time: I love mysteries, especially if they are paired with possible travel destinations. (total escape). J.

Just sending this to the top again!

I'll check, whether the summer rates of the Posthotel Engiadina will be online this week.
I hope, they won't have been increased though.

Ingo Mar 14th, 2003 08:41 AM

Hi folks,

just want to tell you that I'll be skiing in the Engadine next week. Leaving tomorrow 4 am (driving). Will be back Saturday evening next week.

I hope to take some photos, just to torture you :-)

Ursula, as far as I know the new summer rates of Posthotel Engiadina are not online yet. Maybe they agree to charge us the rates of 2002?

Have a nice week!

Ingo

Grasshopper Mar 14th, 2003 08:47 AM

You Cad! Well Ingo, your homework is to go to the Posthotel and negotiate really good rates for us. And to check out the best wine!

Have a great time! Looking forward to the photos. :-)

Ingo Mar 21st, 2003 07:54 AM

Hi folks!

Just want to tell you that I am sitting in the public library in Sils, watching the sunset ...

I had some unforgettable days with pure sun, lots of snow and fun. Not to forget great food with excellent red wine. :-)

See you soon.

Ingo

PS: anxious to go to Zuoz in June!

jmw Mar 22nd, 2003 04:53 AM

Hello, Everyone. Ingo, how wonderful to hear from you. During this terrifying time, it is a comforting thing to imagine watching a sunset from a library (one of my favorite places to spend time) in Sils! Love to all, J.

Ingo Mar 25th, 2003 12:23 PM

Unfortunately I am tight on time. But I hope to be able to post some photos this weekend. And maybe add a short trip report (I did not only ski, of course!).

jw: Although the library in Sils is a magical place with incredible views of the lake and the mountains (even in sunset!) - I always had the war in the back of my mind.

s: I just read your post on the "hotels" thread. You (or we) should urgently take the five star hotel Waldhaus in Sils into consideration!!!

Cheers to all, Ingo

Ursula Mar 25th, 2003 11:40 PM

Morning all!
A special hello to Ingo! Your week must have been fantastic.

While I am not fixed upon any place, in my opinion, we should at least try to all stay at the same place.
Would make things much more easier.

I compared the prices of the Posthotel Engiadina****, Zuoz (summer 2002) and the Waldhaus*****, Sils.

The difference (with halfboard) is only some CHF 50.-. A thing to definitely consider. On the other, everything at the Waldhaus is going to be more expensive, too. Be it the wine (!), the drinks at the bar or whatever.
Anyway, I am open for whatever.

Looking forward to your pictures, Ingo. Still gorgeous weather here. :o)

Have a great day all.

swandav2000 Mar 26th, 2003 04:29 AM

Folks,

I can't tell you how soothing it is for me to plan, discuss, and imagine our trip to Switzerland -- or anyone's trip to Switzerland! -- at this time. There seems to be no escape from war, anger, injustice.

So, anyway, Ingo, I'm equal parts thrilled and jealous of your ski trip! Jealous in a good way, of course! I'll hunt around for your photos over the next few days so I can revel in images of beauty and grace and joy.

I think we should stick to our current plan for Zuoz. I am really looking forward to enjoying the perfect village of Zuoz and its town square; I think it's nicely situated right in the middle of the valley, right?

I think I should keep the Waldhaus in Sils as a special treat for my **return** trip to the Engadin. Also, I know many folks here prefer not to stay in 5-star hotels, even cozy and charming ones. But I'm pretty sure I'll be back (soon) to the Engadin, and I look forward to having a *total* five-star experience that won't make me feel out of place or uncomfortable -- so the Waldhaus in Sils will be just right for that second trip. I hope!!

Anyway, peace & faith!

s

Ursula Mar 26th, 2003 04:36 AM

"I think we should stick to our current plan for Zuoz."

Very good. I like that, too.
It's a clear opinion, s. ;o)

Ingo Mar 26th, 2003 09:06 AM

I was just kidding!! I did not think you would jump immediately on this idea. And s, you are right: the Waldhaus in Sils is the perfect place for your return trip. You won't feel uncomfortable; it is very familar and charming.

My intention was to bring this thread to the top. It was too quiet for my taste here!

I am working furiously on posting the photos and a short trip report. I will post here when the work is done.

Peace! Ingo

jmw Mar 29th, 2003 06:22 AM

I'll repeat myself here: Ingo, your pictures are stunning! I wish I could hire you to go to Ticino and make photographs of my favorite places. Hello all! J.

Ursula Apr 1st, 2003 10:12 AM
Ok, folks, the summer prices of the Posthotel Engiadina are listed now. I don't have the ones from last year at hand, so no idea, whether it's more expensive now. But, it will most probably not keep us from staying there. Is that right??
Are we going forward with our planning or how does anybody else think about it?

Anyway, we must go to have that chestnut pasta at the Fex Hotel... with some of that dark red wine Ingo has already tasted. For that, we need to do the hike, of course. Unless, somebody really prefers the Chesa Pirani.

Grasshopper Apr 1st, 2003 10:18 AM

We are all going to be so intent on that Chestnut Pasta and we'll get there and find it's on the seasonal menu and not available in June. Then we'll have to go to Ingo's house so he can cook it for us! :-)

I'm ready to book. Ursula, do you have a link?

Ingo Apr 1st, 2003 10:40 AM

Thanks Ursula!

Well, folks, their website is www.hotelengiadina.ch English version available. Let's check the dates once more: I plan to stay a week, arriving Friday June 13. So I will probably book one of their packages incl. half-board, bikes etc.

I have the rates from last year: the same package was 1085 Sfr. in a single room. Seems that they did not increase the rates (1850 Sfr. is obviously a typo!!). Good news.

So, what do you all think? Booking?

I really, really did not think you would jump on that pasta!! But it was indeed delicious. I hope there are some chestnuts left to cook this dish at the Hotel Fex in June. By the way, we don't necessarily do the hike. What about a ride in a horse-drawn carriage? Even after the meal with some dezi of that red wine!!

Keep going on with posting, folks. It is such a relief in those hard times.

Ingo

swandav2000 Apr 1st, 2003 10:40 AM

Ursula!!

Thanks so much for keeping up with the hotel. I'll be booking my room this week!

And yes I'm up for the hike & wine & pasta at Fex Hotel. Maybe I'll get to Chesa Pirani later in the week!

GH, the webaddress is www.hotelengiadina.ch.

So, who's started a countdown?

s

Grasshopper Apr 1st, 2003 10:46 AM

Ingo, Is that's what's listed as "all inclusive" week?

Ursula Apr 1st, 2003 11:06 AM
Planning to arrive Friday, June 13 (:eek!) and must leave Monday afternoon (June 16).
I shall book that half-board package for 3 nights.

If they shouldn't have the chestnut pasta in June, I can assure you, that they have some terrific homemade fruit tart at the Fex Hotel.

And Ingo, I know about the horse-drawn carriages. But then, I need some physical exercise, you know. I'll be in Paris late May and then again in July...

Enjoy the remains of this April 1!
But remember, this GTG is not a joke...
I don't count the days, yet. Too much going on till then. ;o)

Ursula Apr 1st, 2003 11:10 AM

Grasshopper,
Yes, that's the AI week.

While I am booking the 'Last Minute Break'. I only hope, I can book this these coming days.

swandav2000 Apr 1st, 2003 11:11 AM

Ursula -- AND you live in Zurich!!

O, and Paris in May and Mick in July!

Am I admitting to having no life if I say that my fun begins as I step on the Zurich-bound airplane!

Jealousjealousjealous I am!

s
