Not too early today ...

I agree, let's make last minute decisions on where to go and what to do. Everything depends on the weather.

Ursual, I'd love to see the Segantini museum. I must admit I have not made it into it so far. Some more bad weather suggestions: Convent of Müstair, Sils with Nietzsche museum and Robbi museum. We also could attend the "Kurkonzert" in Sils (in the church in case it's raining)or Pontresina.

Clouds and fog in Dresden. Makes people depressive. I am envious looking at the Engadine webcams.

Ingo
|
Morning all!

Ingo, Müstair is far too far for a daytrip. Sorry.
Kurkonzert, yes, sounds cool and relaxing.

And I like the pub crawl, too, Phil.

Well, we won't run out of ideas, that's for sure.

Enjoy your day. Here, it's so and so. Cold, some clouds.
|
Sorry, Ingo. Müstair is a possibility.
But, as we are more or less fixed on Soglio and the Palazzo Salis for Saturday, I am not that crazy about another out of the way trip on Sunday. Especially, if we do a pub crawl Saturday evening. ;o)
Rather stay in the Engadine area.
Just my wish.
|
Hello-

Ha! Brilliant cloudless blue sky and sunshine for the third day running at Basel (cold, though)!

Have a good time, foghorns :-D

Phil.
|
Oh, I am so envious, Phil. I think, I keep the picture of the Aeschenplatz (webcam BAZ) on my screen today. ;o)
|
Ursula:

Try the Marktplatz webcam at www.basel.ch.

Enjoy Zurich's pea soup :-)

Phil
|
Haha, Phil, it's gorgeous and sunny now.
But I'll check the Märtplatz out, sure and dangge vilmool.
|
Ooh, lovely.

But I like the other side better!
Know why? Because of the Schiesser Tea-Room. :-D
|
If you care to chek this webcam tomorrow at exactly 08.50 CET, I will stand in the niche to the left of the town hall's entrance and wave.

Phil.
|
Is this a joke? Well, I can always check, provided I won't forget. I'll mark it in my agenda. Thanks.
|
I know I'm not supposed to indulge in this pasttime during the work week, but you people crack me up. Ursula, are you able to see Phil via the webcam? If so, I'm going to have an additional assignment for the GTGSG: Not only will you folks have to sing a folk song for me when I telephone, but someone must figure out how you can stand in the frame of a webcam somewhere in the vicinity at a prescribed time, so I can get a look at you all. What do you think? Affectionately, J.
|
JW, what a great idea. Maybe Ingo can figure out which webcam of the Engadine would be realistic.

Phil, I hadn't realized you were in Basel. I spent 4 lovely days in Basel in 2001. I really loved the little boats that take you across the river. What a great place to live.

The trip is sounding really wonderful. Ingo, you mentioned a 40 kilometer downhill bike ride somewhere? Is it possible to take a bus or train back to the beginning? Sounds like my kind of ride! I am collecting downhill scenic bikerides for my bike book. It can go with my Centovalli ride, my Vail Pass ride and the Haliakala ride on Maui.

Especially looking forward to the pub crawl and hope we can visit one of those cheese caves.

Cheers everyone.
|
Morning folks!

Phil, yesterday, I was 'here' at 08.50 AM, but I did not see anybody wave! :o(
So, it was a joke, right? Never mind.

And, congrats to the FCB! Well done!

Ingo, we could combine the pub crawl with a small tour of the charming little squares!
|
Ursula:

Well, actually I was there and waved hard. But as i didn't know the frequency they update their pictures, I might have fallen through two frames. A sit was so cold, I didn't stay for more than one minute and went on to attend my meeting (inside, nice and warm).

Nice football game, though, wasn't it? I watched it on TV but heard the crowd from the stadium up to where I live. Today's weather again matches the mood at Basel: Bright and sunny.

Phil.
|
Hello Everyone!

Really enjoying these exchanges. I *almost* considered getting up at 2 am to see Phil. Almost!

I want to thank you guys -- Ursula, Phil, Ingo -- for continuing to post in English and keeping us all included!! Thanks! I appreciate it!

* * * is it too early to start packing ???

s

I could not resist checking in to see the result of the web cam caper. Phil, the idea of "falling between the frames" strikes me as very funny. I'm really hoping you folks can figure out the logistics of such a web cam drama before the GTGSG. I think it would be nothing less than conceptual art! Don't you think so, Ursula? And as for the folk song performance, I can hardly wait. I'll even croon a few bars of "You are My Sunshine" in return. I think this whole thing has the makings of a real event.

S', as organizer, you deserve big applause. Even though I cannot make the trip, following your preparations is such a treat! Oops, my time is up. Love to all, affectionately, J.

p.s. By the way, Ursula, thanks for the Swissinfo and the swisspeaks addresses. I am indeed the one who asked about Swiss news sites.

|
Morning folks!
Phil, yes, that 'falling between the frames' made me giggle as well. BTW, they change the picture every 15 sec. and I don't how for how long you've been waving given the cold.
And for some moments, there were cars hiding the niche. BTW, I printed the pictures out - as a proof¨! I will bring them to the GTG, provided I won't forget.

jmw, you're welcome!

Enjoy your weekend! Here, it will be sunny, once the fog has gone. Still freezing cold though.

Hello Everyone! You were in my dreams last night; isn't that weird? My coffee time is just ending, so I'll add a quick note.

I've spent an hour reading articles at the swissinfo site and looking at the nzz site as well (You gave me that one last year, Ursula). Actually the articles in English seemed to be exactly the same at both sites. Thanks again. One of the greatest advantages of this wonderful net for me is to read points of view other than those I can access via PBS and PRI here in the U.S. One of the quotes which caught my attention this morning (at swissinfo) was from someone named Christian Weber of the Radical Party, who said (about the mess we're in) something like "I don't know who to believe. . . " Well I surely can relate to THAT feeling.

Oops, almost lapsed into politics and world affairs. Change of subject: I took a look at Topin's selection of web cams for Graubunden, and they all seem to be panorama blicks -- so I guess my hope of a group wave is unlikely. But it is such a cheerful idea that it brightens my day even to think about it.

Back to swissinfo for a moment -- in the article about Berne's museum there was a mention of an exhibition of Albert Anker, whose name doesn't ring a bell with me. I must go to one of my search engines and see what I can find out.

I stumbled upon a site called traveling.ch. Familiar w/anyone? It contains a short description of Swiss political parties (which is why I was 'there'), but I could not resist their recipe page and found Salmon Basel style. I think I'll try it. Got to get more of that omega 3. I'm rattling, so bye for now. Affectionately, J.

Hello folks,

I just want to tell you that the weather is FANTASTIC in Dresden! Pure sun!

Yesterday I have been to the Semper Opera in Dresden: La Boheme. It was unbelievable. The best ever! I am running out of superlatives.

Jw, nice to hear from you. I wondered which webcam would work for us. There is one in Silvaplana at the surfing centre. http://www.iecam.com/wsb/showpics_01.asp?cam=J01j&S=1
The advantage is that you can search in an archive. The webcam makes a picture every 30 minutes.

Albert Anker? A Swiss painter, but I don't know much about him and his works.

Enjoy your weekend!

Ingo
Dear people, I was going to begin with something light-hearted like 'Happy Mardi Gras weekend', but I'm really so disheartened by world affairs that I cannot. If you'll pardon an older female venting her frustration, I feel like I'd like to get my hands on ALL our male world leaders and shake them till their little heads rattled. There, I've got that out of my system and I know it is a sexist comment, but I just couldn't help myself.

So please write soon about art and operas and food and books and adventures, affectionately, J.
