ekscrunchy, do you know of anywhere in NY where I can purchase Meyer lemons? My friend and I are making are anuual trip in a couple of weeks and this is on my list if I can find it. Thanks.

bfrac, when they are around you can almost bet they will be at Fairway. Try the Fairway Market at 74th and Broadway. You might run into EK there - though I don't know if I ever have!

I was there a week or so ago and bought a load of small artichokes! I also like the Campari tomatoes in the boxes stacked outside..and the olive oils..and a million other things!!

I am not sure that Meyer lemons are in season anymore...isn't winter the time for these?

Meyers lemon is a winter producer. They are small and hard green now.

Thank you all for the replies. I didn't realize they were a winter item. I will be hitting Fairway, Zabars, Union Square Market and the above mentioned places on Sat. 28th if anyone is out shopping that day.

How indeed would I know you? There are at least 7 or 8 erudite women shopping for the best ingredients at any given moment in Fairway.

But here's how you'll know me: I'll pass by the frozen deserts, pause, think about it, look with a mix of longing and disdain at the Starbucks Low-fat Latte and Sharon's coconut sorbet and ... where the heck is the gelato? It was never perfect but it was there.

Hoping this is temporary and not a break in the space-time continuum, I remain,

TC..Well, I am not sure about the erudite part, but in any case we will not be meeting near the frozen desserts (is this the case stuck in the rear corner behind the meats?)
Sadly, I never buy these as I have no room in my home freezer, because it is always stocked to the brim with various breads (one whole Sullivan Street pan Pugliese and sometimes a rapidly ageing half loaf that I will be making into bread crumbs any day now), and with several packs of DiPalo eggplant Parmiggiano and sausages and pancetta/guanciale, and with....and with...actually, who knows what else is in there, but there is NO room for ice cream! (Even if I scream!)

But I do spend a lot of time lingering in the cheese area. And can never resist tasting at least one of the Fairway brand olive oils..if only that hard-to-find brown paper bag has not been emptied of baguette slices...

Another clue might be the bloodied backs of my ankles..but then I guess many die-hard Fairway shoppers sport these!!

Ha! Yes, I've been banged by a cart or two myself. (The use of "cart" does not quite betray my midwestern roots - we said basket at the supermarket when I was growing up. In NYC of course, a basket is for the express lane. But I never heard "wagon" for shopping cart until I came east.)

EK, here's a tip: you don't need room in your freezer if you just sit down and eat all the ice cream right away ...
