Eiffel Tower Gigapixel
 

Been a while since we have updated the site, but we have lots of new content that we will add over the next few months. To kick-off the new updates, we have just added a new gigapixel image of the Eiffel Tower. Go take a look at http://www.parisbyphoto.com/eiffeltower/ and scroll down to the end of the page. To really enjoy it, view it full screen and use the mouse to look around.

We have added a new photo of the Arc de Triomphe. At 600 megapixels, you get to zoom in to see some incredible detail. Hope you like it, as we had to risk standing in between 2 lanes of Paris traffic for 20 minutes to take the 72 photos required for the image:)

We have just added our largest gigapixel photo yet - a night time 1.7 gigapixel photo of L'Hotel de Ville. We were lucky to find the square in front nice and clear, inviting us to photograph the town hall.

We wanted to capture the dome in full, unfortunately there is no where in the road to stand and be safe in between the cars, so it is hard to take at a distance where you can see the dome in full. We are planning to go back again though, with some bright reflective clothing, road signs and a backbone:)

Wow, this is great! What kind of camera are you using?

It was taken using a canon 1DIV. In total 207 photos were stitched together, then cropped slightly to create the image.

Did you make faces fuzzy or is it my screen?

It was a fun surprise, when I first saw it in person, that the tower is lacy looking.

What stitching program do you use? I've used Microsoft ICE and it's insanely easy but I'm always looking for more ideas.

@TDudette - yes, made them fuzzy. French law.....

@Iowa_Redhead - I usually use Autopano Giga, usually the 2.5b1 version, but for this I used 2.0.9 production version as the beta had problems stitching it together. I am working on changing it again as I noticed 2 stitching errors....

Some of them aren't fuzzy, you might need to go back in...I could make out pretty clearly the faces of at least two people in the elevator. Just an FYI.

Very cool shots, lots of fun to look at. And who's flying that helicopter game thing that looks like a bird? when you super zoom in on it, you can see what it is. One person on the top level is pointing at it.

Well, that is called an AR.Drone. It is a remote controlled (using an iPhone) Quadricopter. Basically an expensive toy:)

Yes, I understand that cameras can be attached to the AR.Drone. I wonder who was controlling it - I'm a little surprised they were able to do that so close to the ET and so high up.

What is the significance of the words just under and between the curly cues under the windows of the first level? I never noticed them before.

I can certainly see that the tower was in great need of fixing up. They're doing a wonderful job.

I'm digging your website and clicking on your ads to try and donate a couple cents. I spent the most time on the eurostar menu. That's a hoot and fascinating for some reason. Obviously it is to you, too or you wouldn't have devoted so much space to it. I love the little chuckles in the drone patrol video. Very nice, easily-maneuvered website. Thanks.
