Eiffel Tower Gigapixel
Been a while since we have updated the site, but we have lots of new content that we will add over the next few months. To kick-off the new updates, we have just added a new gigapixel image of the Eiffel Tower. Go take a look at http://www.parisbyphoto.com/eiffeltower/ and scroll down to the end of the page. To really enjoy it, view it full screen and use the mouse to look around.
Please let us know what you think of it and feel free to ask us to create Gigapixel images of other famous Paris landlarks. |
Wow! I could zoom in to see the features on the people on the top deck, and the lacy detail of the structure. Great site - thanks for sharing
|
You are very welcome. I am glad you like it! We plan to add a new one soon, with alomst twice the amount of zoom.
|
Very cool image! I can't get over the detail. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to more.

We have added a new photo of the Arc de Triomphe. At 600 megapixels, you get to zoom in to see some incredible detail. Hope you like it, as we had to risk standing in between 2 lanes of Paris traffic for 20 minutes to take the 72 photos required for the image:)

We have just added our largest gigapixel photo yet - a night time 1.7 gigapixel photo of L'Hotel de Ville. We were lucky to find the square in front nice and clear, inviting us to photograph the town hall.
http://www.parisbyphoto.com/monuments-buildings/hdv/ Remember to let us know if you want any specific Paris monument or attraction. We are happy to photograph as many as we can. |
We have added a gigapixel of Le Pantheon, by night, which you can find here: http://bit.ly/9FCPjB
We wanted to capture the dome in full, unfortunately there is no where in the road to stand and be safe in between the cars, so it is hard to take at a distance where you can see the dome in full. We are planning to go back again though, with some bright reflective clothing, road signs and a backbone:) |
We have just added our new Gigapixel photo of the Eiffel Tower. You can zoom in further with this one. Can you spot the kissing couple?

Wow, this is great! What kind of camera are you using?
|
It was taken using a canon 1DIV. In total 207 photos were stitched together, then cropped slightly to create the image.
|
Did you make faces fuzzy or is it my screen?
It was a fun surprise, when I first saw it in person, that the tower is lacy looking. COOL shots, thanks. |
Amazing shots! Thanks!
What stitching program do you use? I've used Microsoft ICE and it's insanely easy but I'm always looking for more ideas. |
Hi,
@TDudette - yes, made them fuzzy. French law..... @Iowa_Redhead - I usually use Autopano Giga, usually the 2.5b1 version, but for this I used 2.0.9 production version as the beta had problems stitching it together. I am working on changing it again as I noticed 2 stitching errors.... not used Microsoft ICE or heard of it. I will have to take a look. Thanks. |
Some of them aren't fuzzy, you might need to go back in...I could make out pretty clearly the faces of at least two people in the elevator. Just an FYI.
Very cool shots, lots of fun to look at. And who's flying that helicopter game thing that looks like a bird? when you super zoom in on it, you can see what it is. One person on the top level is pointing at it. |
MLF611, I was wonding what that was too! :)
|
Well, that is called an AR.Drone. It is a remote controlled (using an iPhone) Quadricopter. Basically an expensive toy:)
Thanks for the tips on the faces. Uploading a new version now..... |
Yes, I understand that cameras can be attached to the AR.Drone. I wonder who was controlling it - I'm a little surprised they were able to do that so close to the ET and so high up.
Thanks again for posting this. A terrific accomplishment, you should be proud! |
I LOVE it! I'm going to check out all the pictures! I'm off to find the Drone now :)
(You have a few faces visible on the middle and upper level as well if you need to know that) |
That was cool! How can that thing fly?!!
What is the significance of the words just under and between the curly cues under the windows of the first level? I never noticed them before. I can certainly see that the tower was in great need of fixing up. They're doing a wonderful job. |
I'm digging your website and clicking on your ads to try and donate a couple cents. I spent the most time on the eurostar menu. That's a hoot and fascinating for some reason. Obviously it is to you, too or you wouldn't have devoted so much space to it. I love the little chuckles in the drone patrol video. Very nice, easily-maneuvered website. Thanks.
|
I just noticed you wrote landlarks in your original message above. That's cute, too.
I'd like to see gigapixel pictures of the covered markets if that would be possible. I know they aren't huge monuments but it would be fun to see all the beautiful produce, hogs heads, fish and maybe some of the architecture. Might be difficult if it's busy and you have to blur too many faces. But, something to think about. |
hi and thanks for all the feedback!
We went out yesterday to add some more video of the AR.Drone, this time in La Defense http://www.parisbyphoto.com/fun/ @PDX - I can try to do a covered market. I could probably do some close up of each stall and add them to a 360 tour. yep, I like the menu. I need to travel first class again now to get access to the new one - not likely:) @KWREN - I believe they are the names of scientists, engineers and a couple of famous people. In total there are 72. |
Spent 3 hours outside in the freezing cold last week photographing Notre Dame. You can take a look at the results here: http://gigapixelparis.com/nd/ It took 600 photos for this one.
I have added all the gigapixel photos to a new site now to make each gigapixel photo easier to access. Next up I hope to capture the Christmas stalls at the bottom of the Champs Elysee. It is not even December yet, but they are out in force! Hope you like the photo. |
Just seeing this thread for the first time, and all I can think is WOW. Impressive work, great stitching - and vous êtes courageux, for the places you put yourselves in to do this work! Merci bien!!
|
Amazing, thanks so much for posting the links. I just loved visiting the ET and spotting all the interesting things.
Congratulations!!!! |
It's beautiful. I showed it to my husband who saw it at night during our trip. Nice memories.
|
Thanks for the great feedback. It is a lot of fun to take the photos, even when freezing cold:)
|
With the awesome weather recently I thought it was time I started adding more gigapixel photos.
I have just added one of Porte Saint-Martin to the Gigapixel Paris site, which really needs a good wash! http://bit.ly/gJU5xZ Hope you like it. I should add one for Beaubourg Soon, though it is a little wonky so I will do it again later in the summer:) |
A wonky looking Gigapixel Photo of Centre Georges Pompidou (Beaubourg) has just been added. I will definitely do this one again later in the summer... Hope you like it regardless!
http://bit.ly/fLtv0Z Will start work on some gigapixel 360 photos of the main Paris parks in a few weeks, once all the flowers have started to bloom plus I should have a 360 virtual tour of Le Marché des Enfant-Rouges, a great (but pricey) market in the 3rd. I am also open to suggestions (a Paris market is an old suggestion which I hope to complete soon), so please let me know... |
