Ira, Sorry about that missing 5%. That is why I am not a guru! And yes, those dishes do sound very tasty but as you may know from my voluminous food rambles, I am not a quesy eater.
What I want to know is why Le Sirene is so inexpensive. Are there any negatives about that place? |
Ira, One more thing: I think it is my duty to warn you that there is a contender nipping too closely at your heels for comfort for the Amalfi transport guru position.
I would be on the toes of my sockless feet if I were you. |
Hi ek,
>What I want to know is why Le Sirene is so inexpensive. < The building and the land are paid for - Giancarlo's grandfather (I think) built the place. It is in Praiano, not Positano. It is family run. >Are there any negatives about that place? < Other than having to walk up steps, which is true of the whole AC, I can't think of any. ((I)) |
The place to stay in Positano is Le Sirenuse. Maybe that's what people are thinking of.
|
TravMimi, you obviously don't know Ira. They're definitely NOT talking about Le Sirenuse!

lol o ok

I've gone to a number of the Flo brasseries with the print out for the discount in my pocket, but have never been able to use one. It seems I invariably order a "menu" with choices, but the coupons are not good for that -- they're good only if you order ala carte which is usually considerably more expensive to start with.
|
Yes, the Flo website states that cavet, or did the last time I looked long ago, and for this reason the coupon is fairly worthless in my opinion.
Yes, I know the Le Sirene is in Praiano, Ira. It would be difficult NOT to know as you have recommended it so often. There are a number of family owned and run hotels on the Amalfi coast and most of them are nowhere as inexpensive as Le Sirene. So I was just wondering why the prices there are so very much lower than many of the other options discussed here.. Just musing.... I have been to the Amalfi coast a couple of times so I am not a total novice. But the last time was more than 15 years ago and I don't remember all that much except those views. |
I vacationed in Italy last year and only wore Armani. Le Sirenuse was wonderful, but I did find Positano a bit to casual.I did have a pair of alligator shoes stolen, but bought a beautiful pair of labucci's in Naples. I think all people should take a dinner jacket and throw the jeans and sneakers in the trash.Watch the shows in the sixtys and early seventies,Ed Sullivan etc. when they panned the audience all men were wearing jackets and ties,Many will disagree but my opinion is clothes make the man, and the men who dress well make a nice impression on others. Ira I must say you were a great help on my trip and as I told you I lit many of candles in the churches .ltilley I say pack a jacket and tie for at least one dinner I will bet it makes you feel wonderful to go out all dressed in Italy.

I agree. Vestis virum facit. Latin 101. Don't forget it!
|
ira,
Once you have "unobtrusively handled the silk" it becomes "felt." |
Most amusing!
Ira..more info as requested as to why the Praiano Le Sirene is so low priced as compared to many other properties? |
Maybe if someone listed a specific property that "matches" it in a similar "out of the way" location, ira or others could explain why it is less expensive than your other property. I don't know of many others to compare. Anything within Positano, for example, of the same quality is going to be much more expensive simply because it is in Positano.
|
Thanks, Neo. I don't really have a specific property in mind although in my browsings I have notcied a number of properties that are family owned and managed in that area.. But a hotel on that coast with that view charging those prices...seems almost too good to be true. I am not doubting that Ira and others love it, just wondering... Out of the way location does not always translate into low prices....(Posta Vecchia outside Rome or a couple of properties on the Tuscan coast come to mind..??)
Whenever I've stayed at low priced "finds" in highly touristed areas, there was often a "catch.." (bad beds, dismal tacky furnishings, etc.) More than probably, I am being cynical... By the way, NeoP, I've read your wonderful accounts of the Puglia portion of your southern Italy trip and they are inspiring me to plan a combination of A/C and Puglia for early next year.... |
