Thanks all - what I am doing is copying the menu when it is in Gernam and using Google translator to see it in English. Yes I agree the Chinese food may indeed be very different to what we are used to here in Houston (where the Chinese food is as good as one gets in San Francisco- having lived in SF we know). We will do the Tex Mex food as well - again probably different that what we are used to here in Houston.

From your (brief) brief, I would recommend the Steigenberger if you want to be close to the Frauenkirche. If you're staying more than a few nights, then the Aparthotel Altes Dresden is very pleasant. I spent nearly five weeks there in November/December 2011 and loved it. The location and view were unbeatable, the price was reasonable (about 100 euros a night), the king-sized bed was very comfortable and I appreciated having a kitchenette and a washing machine.
As for Asian cuisine, I ate several times at Ricky's Quan -- tasty and cheap. Usually restaurants that offer several types of Asian cooking screw up all of them, but I liked everything I tried. http://www.rickysquan-sushibar.de/speisekarte/ For moderately priced good food and nice local wine selection, I also ate numerous times at Winzerstube zum Rebstock http://www.winzerstube-zum-rebstock.de/ reservations essential. And don't miss the pastries at the Cosel Palais. Worth skipping a meal to have the extra calories to spend there. Overall, I found the restaurants in Dresden very reasonably priced -- a pleasant surprise. My only bad experience was at a café in a small shopping center near the Blue Wonder bridge (they served Illy café, which was why I stopped there). The waitress who brought me the bill was different from the one who served me. I paid her, she went off shift, and then when I left, the original server chased after me insisting I still needed to pay. She was very insistent. Fortunately the other waitress was still in the shopping center, saw the argument and came over to confirm I had indeed paid. Not fun, but a good opportunity to practice speaking German under pressure. |
