Dreaming of Positano and Nocelle

Hi there! No specific question here. Just dreaming of Positano and Nocelle. Thinking of the lunch we had in Nocelle during the sunset and being able to see the Amalfi Coast from that high up in the mountains was something I will never forget I could even see the rocks all the way over in Capri from this high up. The hamlet's, stairs, and flowers of Positano and Nocelle I miss dearly. I miss the exercise I got there. I miss the food. I miss the charm. Oh, how I miss the charm!

Does anyone want to dream with me?

JillDavis Mar 28th, 2013 11:54 AM

anyone?

Well, I will if I've been there. I am planning a trip this summer, expecting to stay in Sorrento or Positano, doing day trip to Capri, any ideas? Where did you have that delicious food? Everywhere? Describe please! Yum

Hi!! Okay, in Capri make sure you do the chair lift to the top of Mt. Solarno. One of the the highlights of my time in Capri. Also, we loved our boat trip from Positano to Capri. The boat trip included stops to swim in grottos and going right through the fragilini rocks. We didn't have a bad meal anywhere in Positano. You must to go Nocelle (a town in the mountains above Positano) and eat during sunset at the restaurant Santa Croce. Get a window seat and be prepared to just gaze in wonder at the view.

Oh Jill, I dream of Positano every day - so much so that I am going back in June! Where were your favorite places to eat when you were there?

I am dreaming of the wonderful lunch we had a Da Adolfo and the amazing bellini we had watching the sunset on the terrace at Il San Pietro one evening.

And yes, the torturous exercise we got every day that allowed us to eat all that wonderful food and drink the fabulous wine!

Jill, where did you stay? any recommendations? Sound

reneev40 Mar 28th, 2013 12:18 PM

sounds wonderful,

We stayed at Hotel Marincanto and just loved it! The views were amazing and it had the most wonderful infiniti pool that looked out onto the sea. It even had a private walkway down to the beach. Gosh, I can't remember all the restaurants we ate at. We honestly did not have one bad meal.

I had a quick 2 or 3 nights in Positano.

The Domina Royal has lovely views and patios:

And then a splurge at Il San Pietro. At the time I worked for a sister Relais & Chateaux property, so I got a discounted rate. It's one of the most beautiful settings ever! They have also improved their website with beautiful images: http://www.ilsanpietro.it/

OK ekc & Jill. You are making my anticipation worse. I'm leaving for a trip to Sicily in just 20 days, after 8 years of planning and dreaming.

I will have some canoli and lots of Nero d' Avola for you. So stop already, I cannot stand it!

Just checking in.... another Positano dreamer here. It's one of my favorite places on earth. I'm hoping to get back there again this summer, although my husband seems to think we should go somewhere new. TRAITOR!

We always stay at The Poseidon Hotel, which has gorgeous views, and an exceptional staff. But the truth is I could probably be happy just about anywhere with that kind of food (!!) and view.

If you're going, don't miss the flowery seaside path that leads to Fornillo Beach. THe memories of it are ALMOST enough to get me through this dismal NYC winter!

So Positano over Sorrento.

Thanks, Peter. AHHHHHH......!

And yes, reneeve40, I totally agree: Positano over Sorrento! Not even close.

reneev40 Mar 29th, 2013 09:41 PM

Perfecto

No brainer - Positano has much more charm than Sorrento.

Will be arriving in Positano for the first time Apr.20 and can hardly contain my excitement! Couple of questions for you Amalfi coast veterans, will I be the only one swimming at this time of year? Is a day trip to Paestum worthwhile, or in your opinions is it better to eat and drink my way through Positano? And finally at this time of year is there regular boats to Capri from Positano?

Thanks in advance for the input and can't wait to try some of the recommended restaurants!

JillDavis Mar 31st, 2013 04:15 PM

It might be too cold in April to swim. Can't give you any advice on Paestum as I haven't been there. From my experience with the Amalfi Coast, you may not want to leave. :) It is heaven on earth. Don't forget to do the chair lift up to Mt. Solarno when you are in Capri.

I LOVED my day trip to Paestum and would highly recommend it, depending on how much time you have on the AC and what else you want to see.
