Yes, bilbao is fun, even in the rain. I had a rain jacket (which you may remember if you've been following closely) whicheck I bought in lalinde, france, a whole nother country. DW was getting wet, however, so we finally gave in and bought an umbrella, which hasn't broken yet. We really liked the Gugenheim, tdude. It has a big puppy made out of flowering plants outside and a wonderful series of huge maze like sculptures by Richard Serra inside which you walk through and think about time and timelessness and canyons in arizona. And the building itself is way cool, of course. And kimhe, we finally followed some fodorite advice and walked to your Cafe Iruna, over the bridge, by the train station, around the circle, and across from the Jardin. Built in 1903. Beautiful tile. We had a very nice dinner, white table cloth and all. We're looking forward to sun tomorrow.

Just signing on, santamonica, and am very much enjoying your report. That area is high on our list for a visit. All of your accommodations have looked lovely so far. Enjoy the rest of your trip and looking forward to more!

Thanks yanky. Tomorrow we go home, start preparing for our dc gtg.
We went to a play, Buena Gente, today. It was at the Teatro Arriaga, a beautiful opera theater built around 1890 I think. I understood very little but knew the basic plot from reading the synopsis beforehand in english. Spanish people speak Spanish very quickly. Then we had Bacalao au pil pil which is cod in garlic sauce which people here like a lot. Earlier today we went to the Museo de Bellas Artes, the other museum in Bilbao, and bought some socks at Corte Ingles, which DW likes from her couple years in Madrid after college. That was our last day in Spain. The alarm goes off at 4:55am. Que barbaridad! I'll post a link to photos when I remember how to. |
Spanish people speak Spanish very quickly. <<<<<Ain't it the truth! Now I want to visit Bilbao.

Sounds like a great trip....but it's about time you returned home to prepare for the DC GTG!
