Once again people
You dont have to be a creationist to dismiss the theory called evolution From the Guardian Evolution Poll of 2009..Evolution 25% 'definately' true 25% 'probably' true 50% Opposed or confused(with only 22% of those choosing intelligent design) Its an awful theory that is a placebo for people who dont like creationists. btw: In the Scottish Reformed tradition there is the doctrine of TOTAL DEPRAVITY. That doctrine states you can NOT choose to be a Christian. FAITH is something GIVEN by God to his people. This leads to confusion for those without faith because, and insecure ones will grab onto ANY theory that could possibly disprove Creation |
we've thrashed this out with FrankS before and the argument goes something like this:
Flanner or Chartley point out the scientific basis for evolution and what a load of tosh creationism is. FrankS counters with more or less what he's said above. Someone else, in this case tulips, mentions Leviticus, and asks FrankS to justify its bizarre punishments for, for example, growing 2 sorts of crops together or wearing clothes of mixed fibres, FrankS Goes quiet. Come on FrankS, break the mould. Why are some bits of the Bible literally true [the parts which support your belief in creationism] and other bits not [the uncomfortable bits that tulips points out]? |
annhig - you're asking someone who believes in creationsim to be logical? I'm not holding my breath!
BTW, to the OP, if still here, the answer to your question is "regrettably, quite a lot". |
ann,
You are more than welcome to start a thread in the Lounge and we can discuss the Mosaic Law in detail. However, this thread is about insecure Scots upset over an innocent question by an American Tourist |
It's an interesting cultural difference. Having lived in the UK, the Netherlands and Belgium, I can honestly say that I have never met anyone, or known of anyone, who supports FrankS' views on this issue. It does, to me, seem an American point of view. And nearly all of my friends are Christians.
I would have been just as baffled as the OP was, about someone objecting to Darwin. |
to me, seem an American point of view??
American??? Speaking of ignorance, how can one use a name of TULIPs, lived in the UK, Netherlands and Belguim, claim Christian friends & be completely mystified by basic Christian history and simple historic Reformed Christian doctrine originating from those very countries? TULIP is the acronym used to this day for The Decision of the Synod of Dorht on the Five Main Points of Doctrine in Dispute in the Netherlands. This doctrine is also expressed in the Belgic Confession and Westminster Standards T- Total depravity(I spoke of earlier) U- Unconditional Election L- Limited Atonement I- Irresistable Grace P- Perserverance of the Saints You might notice that Creation wasnt covered, thats because NOBODY openly disputed creation at that time |
Answer me this:
If Adam and Eve begot Cain and Abel, and Cain slew Abel, who did Cain mate with in order to create the human race? Did Cain mate with his own mother? Did he mate with a sister who came later? Are the creationists telling us that we are products of incest? The creationists are suggesting the 7 billion people on earth a descended from this family of three? Thin |
Thin,
Adam and Eve had MANY children, so yes there were marriages of siblings. Remember, Eve was created from Adam and he lived to be almost a 1000 years old. The fossil record shows there was quite a bit of genetic variation BEFORE the flood. We today are all offspring from Noahs family of 8 |
The BBC ran a series ten years ago to rank the Ten Greatest Britons, according to popular vote. I was heartened to discover that the UK had voted Darwin 4th. (I was somewhat less heartened to see them vote Diana into 3rd). Still, shows the respect in which he is held.
The rankings, for anyone still interested: 1. Churchill 2. Brunel 3. Diana 4. Darwin 5. Shakespeare 6. Newton 7. Lennon 8. Elizabeth I 9. Nelson 10. Cromwell |
"he lived to be almost a 1000 years old"
If I needed any more reason to put this FrankS person (whom happily I had not previously "met") on my "ignore at all costs list", this would do it. My hypothesis is that most of the religious nuts emigrated to the US, and propagated whatever gene is responsible for the idiocy there, and that's why the US is infested with them while Europe is happily freer of them (although immigration there has been importing some religious fanatics lately). |
<<We today are all offspring from Noahs family of 8>>
Oh my. |
Oh, so you are telling me that humans are an incestuous lot.
OK. I guess that is why the 3rd Commandment isn't-- Thou shalt not rape your sister. Thin |
Dear FrankS, from your own post; 'Fodors seems to have its share of those sharing their ideologies aggressively'
I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. |
>>From the Guardian Evolution Poll of 2009..Evolution
25% 'definately' true 25% 'probably' true 50% Opposed or confused(with only 22% of those choosing intelligent design) Its an awful theory that is a placebo for people who dont like creationists. << It's a complex subject for people who don't feel the need to think about it much, if at all, and tend to say the first thing that comes into their head when a pollster calls. |
Where is Jane Bloody Austen on that list?
I can't believe she didn't make that list!!! And none of the Mitfords???? BBC didn't poll me. Thin |
Frank, your interpretation of the son's of God marrying the daughters of men?
|
Frank, your interpretation of the son's of God marrying the daughters of men?<<
Genesis documents Fallen Angels that married mortals and produced offspring. The genetic chain of those offspring was ended at the Flood, though the Israelites will fear the people of Canaan and use an excuse that those giants had returned |
Remember, Eve was created from Adam and he lived to be almost a 1000 years old.>
Frank lapse back into reality please - you really believe Adam lived to be a thousand years old - if you do... well I guess you believe in Santa Claus as well - as much proof behind it being real as any silly story about Adam and Eve - Adam and Eve was the male part of society permanently making women second class chattel existing only to serve man - that you can swallow this crap without even thinking - has to be without thinking - is yes incredible to a rational, logical person. Wallow on in your delusions and hope you are happy about it - just keep your religious beliefs to yourself and do not, as many fundamental Christians are wont to do - inflict them on society as a whole - Yes Jesus protect me from your followers! |
willit, your comment, "It is something I have always found strange about the US, and moreso since I visited. I am always amazed that the nation that produces such a huge amount of scientific research can have such a large population of believers in the brand of religion that believes in a Universe less than 10K years old." is one that worries me daily as I hear of our U.S. House of Representatives holding our government hostage by the same conservative, dare I say racist, group who cannot accept our duly elected (twice!) president?
Also, I have often asked "Who was Mrs. Cain?" on varous Fodorite posts (after hearing that question in a movie). No one ever responds. This is the first time the marriage of siblings actually appears. How can any thinking person possibly believe this stuff? Gordon_R, I do hope you don't think the ignorance of that one guy represents all of America. On the other hand, there are enough of such idiots world-wide to scare me. |
