Delta changing transatlantic flights
Has anyone else had a Delta flight changed? I have a flight to Athens scheduled in May from JFK. I went to look up rates for my friend that is suppose to travel with me and I couldn't find the flight. I checked my itenarary and it had been moved to one day earlier. I have not been contacted by Delta and their lines have been busy each time I called.
Yes, it's true. I had to re-book a flight to Rome via Cincinnati for May. We were re-routed through, of all places, JFK!
There is a different phone number for Delta Medallion members and is not often busy. Perhaps someone knows it and could publish for you and you can call that number to get through
Lufthansa is cancelling flights in May also, if any of you have res. better recheck them now.
I fly US Air. They have canceled all Pittsburgh to London flights for the month of April, eastbound service between Pittsburgh and Frankfurt will not operate on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, westbound service will not operate on Wednesdays and Thursdays, eastbound Philadelphia to Amsterdam service will not operate on Tuesdays and westbound service will not operate on Wednesdays. So far no cutbacks on service to Paris, Madrid, Rome, Manchester, Dublin, Shannon or Munich.<BR>Larry J<BR>

I just called Delta and my May 11th flight is cancelled from Atehns to JFK> No one notified me or my travel companion, it was cancelled March 6th.
If any of you are a Delta frequent flyer, I suggest you go to their website, put in your frequent flyer number plus your pin number to access your itinary.<BR>There you will see if changes have been made to flights along with being able to pick your seat assignments.<BR>I made my European reservations for July last June and they have constantly changed my flights, but I have always been able to make the necessary changes in seat assignments. <BR>When I called Delta for an explanation, they told me that they would have called me, but since my flight has months to go, they are calling passengers with more recent flights before calling those with more far out flights. They said they would have called me at a later time, but had to take care of the most recent flyers.<BR>Be aware that this is happening and keep checking your itinaries on their web page to stay one step ahead of them for your own benefit.
Update: I called Delta and either I can go a day earlier or fly using Air France. Does anyone have experience with Air France's Business Elite?<BR>I can't do the earlier date because there are no seats left on the Delta flight that my friend can book.
Yes-you do have to keep on top of things-we have been re-routed from SFO on Air France through Paris. Luckily I had been checking with Delta on my Business upgrade. Now flights are being cancelled out of Athens to USA In May-Yikes we fly home May 15th. Thanks Chris
I called Delta because I was concerned after reading these posts. And yes, they had changed our flights (re-routed via Cincinatti rather than Atlanta)and the flight times are different although luckily not significantly.. No-one had called us to let us know or anything. Not very good is it.
I'm back again - just had my June 1st return flight from Italy changed to June 2nd by Delta. No notification.<BR>Keep checking your flights.
Silvia...the Business Elite class on Air France is not nearly as nice as the Delta flights...this is from personal experience. Maybe others have flown and find it equally as suitable as the Delta flights, but I was disappointed since you are paying the same price/or using the same amount of miles.<BR>
Silivia, I am due to go on holiday on 27th, so I will be vigilant at checking the flight details. I will probably call them a couple of days before just to be safe. Fingers crossed all is the same!
Thanks to this site, I just finished a long call to Delta. Yes indeedee, our fantastic non stop Venice to JFK has been irrevocably deleted. Now, they are offering Venice to Paris, Paris to Boston, Boston to LaGuardia. Also, they said they were eventually going to contact us. We are a group of ten and I'm scrambling to call the others . Hopefully they can also join us on this marathon of a return home. Oh well!!!
Northwest is also cancelling flights. May flight to Rome from Detroit is completely gone. Now going to Minneapolis to Amsterdam to Rome. We have been changed twice since purchasing tickets many months ago. Arriving late evening rather than early morning. Is there any recourse when you lose vacation time?
FYI;<BR>If you're booked on Delta to Rome, check your flights again.<BR>I just had to re-book my flight for May for a SECOND time!
I just found out today that our direct Delta flight from Atlanta to Madrid has been cancelled for May 8th and now we are being sent through Kennedy in NY at a earlier time of day. I am glad I called today! I have never been to Kennedy so I guess it will be a new experience.
This is repetitous because I just wrote a reply to someone regarding a trip to France. But my husband and I had our May flights on Delta NY-Rome Paris-NY cancelled. FOund out accidentally while on their website and I noticed my flights weren't listed!!! Two weeks ago I reconfirmed both flights. So keep checking because as the agent told me "flights are being cancelled every five minutes." <BR><BR><BR>Air France Business doesn't compare to Delta BUsiness Elite - which is another reason I'm sorry to see Delta in such trouble. Delta's NY-Venice direct flight was magical and now they don't know if they will reinstate it.... <BR><BR><BR>THe Medallion # for Delta is 1 800 325 6330. <BR><BR>

American is also cancelling flights - it happened to me. Anyone traveling to Europe should call (and keep calling!) as they don't seem to be in any hurry to notify you. Nothing can be taken for granted anymore where the airlines are concerned. I just hope American stays in business long enough for me to use up my FF miles!
Continental is canceling flights also. I also found out by accident - went online to check my itinerary and I get told my conf. # is invalid. I had to call in and they were able to give me the new itinerary and do "something" so I could check it online again. This happened once several weeks ago and it was a minor change. Well, yesterday I tried to check again, got the error, called and 3 legs of my flights were canceled! I was offered the "opportunity" to fly from MSP to Newark at the same time as before HOWEVER, I would get to spend the night in Newark! No go. The alternatives were better than that but still not nice. So, they offered to give me a full refund. I rebooked on NWA and got better flight times than what I originally booked on Continental - plus some extra miles for booking online. It was a little more expensive, but worth it in the long run to me. If you have a trip in the near future - you need to call the airlines periodically and check your flights. They are not being proactive and contacting their customers.
How about United? Are they cancelling any flights yet?
cl2paris: I too am booked on Continental to Paris in May. About a month ago they sent me an e-mail offering an "alert" service which would notify me in case of a flight change. I signed up and just yesterday received an alert telling me my original flight was cancelled and I was put on an earlier flight leaving the same day. I went on line and changed my seat from the one they assigned me. It was handled well. Inquire about this e-mail alert service and you won't have to keep checking.
Silivia: I took your advice, checked my intinerary AND it was changed and no one called or e-mailed me! I just got rebooked through Atlanta/Paris/Nice. She did not even do capacity controls(FF tickets)to get me on a flight! There must be all types of confusion in the frindly skies. I thought I was going to have a conniption fit. The agent was very nice and understanding and we are set to go. Whew... I won't believe it till I am on the plane. Judy ;-/
Just had my travel agent check Delta from Atlanta to Milan in June and no changes yet. She said Delta will notify agents if there are changes. If you are on a rigid schedule this can be a major pain in the ***.<BR>What do you do if they change your return trip and there is no easy way to check on changes while traveling in Europe.
I'm renting a global cell phone just for this reason. Today when I changed my flight I asked if I could give them a number since I'll be all over the place for two weeks and they "said" they will call the number if there are changes. I'm thinking about changing back to the flight they originally re-booked me on - Monday leaving out of Venice, instead of Sunday. But, I'm worried they may cancel the Monday flight also and then I'm in big trouble.
Thanks Wags - I decided to get a full refund and I booked a flight with NWA. It turned out to be a better itinerary, so I'm happy about. Next I book Continental, I'll be sure to sign up for the e-mail alert.
Hey everyone- thanks for the info re: Delta. In checked my itinerary online, and had to call Delta. It seems that my flight to Rome from JFK in May " no longer exsists"! What a great phrase. Took a while to get to Delta, but got a roundabout flight to Florence!! Check out your reservations!
That is too bad that Delta has axed their non-stop flight to Venice. There was something absoultely magical about leaving NYC and 8 hours later arrive in Venice.
FYI: in my FF intinerary, they had a notation to "contact Delta". Trie to get through, and it took about 20 minutes of busy signals. Judy :-/
Delta has done it again to us. My return from Nice has been changed three times, the latest was yesterday.<BR>When I checked their website for my intinary, I found that I had no seat assignments. When I contacted them for seat assignments, they tried to put me in row 23 and my wife in row 29-This is for an August 17th return. My reservations were made 11 months in advance!
Delta, for the entire month of May, appears to have reduced its daily flights from the US to Italy from five to one!!!!!!!!!!! (ATL-MXP remains). However, their schedules show complete restoration of all five flights (including JFK-VCE) beginning in June. In the meantime, they are relying on the code share with Alitalia.
GAC-<BR>Yes, yesterday when I talked to Delta they had only 2 flights on my day of travel in May. ATL-FCO (Rome) and JFK-FCO (code share with Alitalia) which was full. We've had our flights changed twice and now can't even sit together.
All of the airlines are facing the same situation-between SARS and the Iraqi situation there has been a great reduction in bookings for the month of May. Also combine it with certain airplanes being taken out and "loaned" to the US government for troop deployment and it creates major havoc for passengers and crewmembers alike!I have heard that for the month of June there is high hope for some sort of regular scheduling to come back. Hang in there-we are all having our share of changes.
What a mess. Delta cancelled our Venice-JFK flight. Yesterday had us on a 19 Hour marathon Venice-Paris, Paris-Boston, Boston-LGA for May. Today I cancelled that one and now we are on Venice-Paris, Paris-JFK all on Air France. BUT, we had to sacrifice one day in Venice and leave a day early. Has anyone gone Paris JFK on Air France??
To put all this changing simply, THIS SUCKS! From a southern girl that means it!
Well, yes, it does suck. And things will really suck for the Delta employees who will be out of work if their employer does not manage to ride out this mess. I live in Atlanta and believe me, Delta's going under would represent a huge blow to the economy here.
I flew one of the last flights (possibly THE last flight) out of JFK into Venice earlier this month, and it was absolutely deserted: pretty much everybody had a row to themselves. The more of us who book for travel in June and July the sooner the flights will be back on line. |
Wow, glad to see that I'm not the only one having problems with Delta. I called 7 days prior to my flight to request a bulkhead seat and was told that my flight had been cancelled weeks ago. I asked if I was going to be contacted and they told they would eventually contact me. They offered me 1 alternative flight which was unacceptable. Customer Service was very unhelpful and couldn't get me onto any of the code share flights that it shares with Air Italia. So, we booked directly with Air Italia and are getting a refund from Delta. While I used to be a dedicated Delta customer I will try to avoid them at all costs from here on based on the service and lack of notification. There must be just too many airlines out there if they think they can treat their customers this way.
