Wow. A year later, and the twelve step programs are needed as bad as ever!
Mel Apr 28th, 2001 06:50 AM

I wandered onto the site about a month ago and I can't find my way back home! The last four years I've gone to Europe (always hitting London/Edinburgh) twice a year--searched for bargain fares, went in March and October, etc. I made a New Year's promise NOT to go in 2001--this year is for cleaning up the credit cards (paying the piper, so to speak). My withdrawel has been helped IMMENSELY by living vicariously through everyone on this site who's lucky enough to get away this year. I find myself getting so excited for strangers--how wonderful! I'm also finding that there's ALWAYS something new to learn about places you think you know well. I'm doing Ireland next March (I've only been to Dublin) and pretty soon I'll be nagging everyone for tips, restaurants, B&Bs, etc. feeling as if I'm lucky enough to have friends from everywhere going with me in some way. THANKS to everyone, especially Sheila, who brings me back to Scotland a few times a day.

Karen Apr 28th, 2001 09:24 AM

Hi, my name is Karen and I am a travel addict. There now, I feel better admitting it out loud. My friends don't understand me and even my husband thinks I'm obsessed. I'm either thinking about a trip, reading about a trip, planning a trip or traveling on a trip. For me, traveling is a "high". I am fascinated by other cultures and I truly enjoy the adventure of figuring out how things "work" and making myself understood when I am abroad (well, most of the time anyway). Since I've discovered this site several months ago, I've been on it at least once a day or more. I'll sit down at night when I should be going to bed and when I look up it's 1:00 a.m. In fact, I missed an appointment with my accountant because I was on the website and didn't finish preparing my tax information. Now, who could blame me ... thinking about travel is way more fun than doing my taxes!
Reading these posts have been fun and they have provided me with my "fix" between trips. I think it's great that someone can post a question and get responses from so many people willing to share their knowledge and experiences. Keep 'em coming.
Karen

Wow! I was so surprised to see that someone else has used my name and e-mail to bring this tread to the top again. Yes, I am still here and still "addicted" to this site, but I would never use someone else's identity to post on this forum. Are you that addicted that you can not use your own identity?

Linda Apr 28th, 2001 01:48 PM

An addict! Who, me? No way. So, I'm on the site at 2 a.m. when I have to be up at 6. So my sink is full of dirty dishes and you could write your name in the dust on my coffee table. As long as I'm with Fodorites, I know I'm with family. The only problem is that I'm going back to school in a couple of months and won't have as much time to spend here. What will withdrawal be like?
Linda

Mary Apr 28th, 2001 08:50 PM

I geuss I'm also addicted to this web site. For months I enjoyed reading all the postings but never felt like I should join in. Last week I did, and its so much fun. Rewarding too, if my info can actually help someone. We're going to Turkey this June and have used many of the posts to plan our trip. I wish I would of known about this site when we went to Italy and especially France. We researched alot of different sources, but nothing beats 1st hand info from someone whos been there. The very best part is I now have an outlet for my travel obsession, instead of driving my non interested friends and family nuts.

I live with my mother who is a wonderful lady but feels she needs the phone line open at all times ("never know who may be trying to call"). I finally got her a cell phone. I can now happily have my Fodors' fix anytime and for as long as I want and Mom has a phone line available.

I have "met" some wonderful folks through my postings over in the Egypt forum and am now taking advantage of your generousity here in Europe (seven weeks this summer with my mom and brother). Not a day goes by that I don't learn something new on here that will help me in my travels.

Thanks Fodors and Fodorites whom I will recognize in my travels by the new Fodors' pin being made available.

zz-top Apr 29th, 2001 07:06 AM

Yes, I'm a Fodor-aholic.

I can be on-line for hours when at home. I frequently read & post at the office. Often use several pseudonyms, to try to hide my addiction. And now like pushers at a schoolyard, we all will be wearing our blue pins to solicit & lure even MORE partipants to this website.

Oh, will it ever end ????????

Art Apr 29th, 2001 07:20 AM

I didn't think that I was addicted until we lost the forum for 3 days. I was going crazy then not being able to see where everyone was going and reading their trip reports.
dana May 8th, 2001 11:50 AM

Wow, I don't know how I missed this one but... count me in.

I don't have a computer at home. I can access this site all day at work.
And I do! :)

Sylvia,
Please don't use capital letters ever again ! It's is hard to read ! Can't you see that ??????

Rosemarie the righteous Mar 30th, 2002 04:30 PM

I feel very self righteous as I only visit this site once a day and have even skipped a day occasionaly !! The one time may last several hours however. I do not type in Caps except to emphasize a point and I am working on put downs but I am such a sweetie it is difficult for me. I don't post under false names and while I know lots of you like to do so I then can't keep track of who's who or to whom I am speaking.I got hooked...pardon me ...engaged by this site before our 3/00 trip to Italy and tho I didn't post..I was shy.. I learned a lot just reading others questions and answers. I love limericks, puns, travel.geneology, old movies, all that neat stuff...the stuff that dreams are made of. Dr Betty I loved your 4/20/00 post. Now I must feed the yowling cats and husband if I can find my way thru the dusty house to the begrimed kitchen.

Rosemarie not always right Mar 30th, 2002 04:47 PM

Correction on Dr Betty Fodor post...it is 4/21 not 4/20. Even I can be wrong.

enquiring mind Mar 30th, 2002 06:23 PM

A more important question is how long do you stay online waiting for a new responseZ!!!!!????????

Rosemarie the rightrous Apr 1st, 2002 01:24 PM

I NEVER wait
I abide in the sure and certain knowledge that if I post it, a response will come..
Responzz?

ThinGorjus Aug 23rd, 2003 05:16 AM

OMG!! This post reminds me of how much I miss Elvira, Santa Chiara, Christina from Florence, and Mary Connelly. I guess they booked into Betty Ford to beat their Fodors addiction??????

Nikki Aug 23rd, 2003 05:40 AM

I love it that even three years ago there were people complaining that the site had become boring and there were no more humorous and interesting posts.
