I am an addict to this forum. <BR> <BR>I sometimes answer too many questions. <BR> <BR>I have used anonymous postings before. <BR> <BR>I was not "phony" ([email protected]) - - I do "dashes" like this - - and never let them actually touch words--like this. <BR> <BR>I cannot think of a nicer group of people with too much time on their hands (or too many neglected other parts of their lives - - or both!) - - to hang around with. <BR> <BR>And I occasionally sign off with <BR> <BR>Best wishes, <BR> <BR>me

Thanks John, You would be amazed how <BR>many people forget to say thanks. <BR>My obvious addiction is also a function <BR>of the quality of writing and humor I see on this site. It reads better than <BR>most books my wife trys to get me to read." Sorry honey, I have to check with <BR>my friends at Fodors".
|
Yeah. Count me in. I check up to six times a day, at home and at work. Also, while we are all confessing, I use an alias. I do so partly because prior to resorting to mufti, I would receive private emails that I don't have time to reply to (and then feel guilty about), or would be asked me to go far beyond the duty. I, too, love and am awed by the depth of knowledge, wit and thoroughness of research on this forum. And, despite the technical downtimes, I have to hand it to Fodors for being so user friendly. All the other sites I have checked out--and you know who you are--are not nearly as reader or as interface friendly. This site rocks.

I too love this site and check several times every day. I was introduced to it by the legendary Dr. Abate, who asked me to testify to my satisfactory experience with one of his rentals. I did so, and was promptly accused of being a paid PR person because I wrote too well! I didn't mind--to an undergrad English major, this was a flattering accusation. And by then, I had become hooked on the forum. Not only have I received lots of really valuable information, but I have also been moved to laughing tears by some of the truly witty folks who contribute. Thank you, Fodor's, and thanks to all the Fodorites.

I'm new to travel. I've now been to China and Paris and I found great suggestions from some great people. Thank you all! New trip in October...any suggestions?
|
This is so funny. My husband has frequently complained that I am 'addicted' to this forum, usually when he leaves the computer for a couple of minutes and I take control of the keyboard. I started out looking at the Latin American forum because that's usually where I travel. Then I checked the Canadian forum because I live in Canada. Now I'm onto the European forum because I'm going to Greece and Turkey in September. But because Turkey is also in the Middle Eastern forum, I have to check it too! Three times a day is nothing!
|
3 times? 10 times? Bunch a weenies! This site is up all day long on my computer (mostly at work); after dealing with a client who is just above crill on the food chain, there's nothing better than reading a post and the answers to bring me back to a pleasant reality. The goofy threads like limericks and haggis-in-a-tube are priceless; the serious threads are invaluable - lots of info that's factual and also personal (a small room is a fact; "I couldn't bend over to tie my shoe" is personal - and a BIG help!). <BR> <BR>It's either this forum or Prozac, and this forum is a lot cheaper (I have pointed this out to my employer, who is taking it under advisement).

I am going to Europe next month and have planned my entire trip from suggestions on this forum. Flying roundtrip to Paris...taking a fabulous train (sleeper) to Barcelona..getting on a boat for a cruise, south of France, Italy, Malta..etc..then back up to Paris..using it as our base, then day trips out to Belgium, Mont St. Michelle, Wine Country, etc, Siene Dinner Cruise. I print out the suggestions. It's been GREAT. THANK ALL OF you.

Elvira: Although I bow to you in all things a la france and even borders beyond, and whereas you reign as queen of travel cyberspace, as a former oceanography drone, I must point out that the proper spelling, I believe, is krill, unless I have really been out of the U.S. too long. <BR> <BR>

Of course, I meant ala francaise, I think. Molti anni fa. I forget. <BR>

Santa, you're korrekt. I kan't type worth beans - espekially khikhis. <BR> <BR>That's why I kall 'em garbanzos.

Count me in as an addict! I've been posting questions and answers for about 4 years now. I'm at this web site a dozen times a day, maybe more. I get to work early in the a.m. and log onto the web site, reading postings and responding to them. I have received a lot of great information which helped me on my previous trips and quite frankly, I don't bother going to other web sites. No need to. You all are my family and I look to you all each day for few moments (okay a few hours) of pleasure.

I don't think I'm a REAL addict since I only check this forum once or twice a day. But that could be a form of denial...like the alcoholic who says he's fine because he only drinks beer and only after 5 p.m. <BR>On the serious side, this forum is the best I've ever found, and since last August I've been reading it regularly to help me plan an upcoming trip to Spain. (I've also printed out other items in hopes of future trips to Europe.) I am especially grateful to Maribel who frequently shares her extensive knowledge about Spain and seems able to answer any question anyone throws her way. <BR>I think Fodor's is to be commended for providing this forum, and for allowing its members such free rein in their discussions, even to the point of letting people recommend other guidebooks over theirs! <BR>My only caveat is that some people get rather sarcastic and mean in their replies (you know who you are), and while I think opinions, even very strong ones, are desirable, I think we should all try to be gracious and civil to one another regardless of our differences of opinion. Remember that most of us are not experts and we are seeking advice and opinions from those of you who are, but no one is seeking insults. <BR>That said, I thank you all, and look forward to many more informative and enjoyable evenings with the Fodorites.

Count me in as another of the addicted. I found this site about two months ago and have been hooked ever since. I've never posted before - but this addiction thread really hit home so I decided to respond. Also want to say how much I enjoy Elvira, Paulo and the other "regular" contributors. Hope I have something woorthwhile to contribute so I can return the favor!

I too have become addicted to this forum. I check it more than I look for my e-mail anymore. I didn't realize how many people post on it. It's neat to turn it on again in a few minutes and see how many more are added to it or what has come to the front again. It's very helpful and it brings back memories from the years I lived in Europe and took some things for granted. I've started going back to Europe again and it's so informative and really gives me a lot of things to think about in my trip planning. It's a great forum with great people participating. I love some of the long threads and I will post them into a word document to read later on. <BR>Carol

Gosh! I feel so much better after reading all these posts. I had been wondering if I was the only one who visits this site SEVERAL times a day. I rarely ever have time at work, but when I do, this is the one I come to. And when I get home, I make up for lost time! I have learned so much from everyone who posts here on a regular basis (Wes, Bob(s),& Ben to name a few). And I always love to read Elvira's posts - never fails to make me laugh! So, thanks to all for providing me with many hours of enjoyment and knowledge!

I thought there was something weird about me -- I certainly couldn't use the word addiction, but I go through withdrawal when traveling on business and do not have access to a computer. This has been my favorite website for a long time now, and I must thank all of you who have helped me plan my travels. The wit and wisdom has been priceless.

Add my name to the growing list of addicts to Fodor! It's after midnight & my husband is reminding me to get some sleep as we've got our plane to catch early tomorrow to Ireland - but here I sit reading the Fodor post. I've now planned trips several years hence based on this Forum's great information. (Gad, he's just come in again to remind me that I've GOT TO STOP). Help! Anyway, I really appreciate all the wonderful information on this site. Susan

Addicted for 2 1/2 years now. This and photo.net are the only sites I view almost daily (often more than 5 times per day). I guess I must be overcoming the addiction some though because I am almost the 40th to respond on this one. I guess it wasn't controversial enough (a joke for those who look at the U.S. site too).

Yes, my name is "Lola" and I'm an addict. But I have justified this by kicking my foot while posting. I burn at least 10 calories a day.
