Currency Exchange

Ok, here's one for the UK Fodorites....

Does anyone know where I can change Euro coins back to sterling? Neither my bank nor the PO will take anything but notes. I've quite a large sum in 2E pieces, so don't really want to hang onto them till my next trip if possible.....

Thanks.

you will not be able to change them as nowhere wants coins!!! sorry

A few suggestions:
Give them to charities
Sell them to someone going to Euroland soon
Use them in some BT payphones that take 50c, 1€ and 2€ coins (1€=60p)
Use coin conversion machines - seen on cross-channel ferries (terrible rate, like 1€=50p)

I put them in an envelope in my files next to my passport. With so many countries using the Euro, it will be nice to have a little change for the next trip.

I leave coins for tips worldwide.

Didn't know about the payphones, so thanks for that tip. 8-)

Managed to offload them at Thomas Cook Bureau de Change in the local travel agent this afternoon - not the greatest rate but apparently they'll take anything upward of 1E coins - so I'm happy with that result!
