I don't think Capri is any less beautiful than Santorini ...just different. They both have fantastic light and amazing sea views (especially from Anacapri).

Of course, the architecture is quite different. And Capri is much less barren than Santorini. Lots of Bougainvilla and those wonderful-smelling trees. As for it being touristy, once you get away from town you'll find a very different and rather secluded island. In fact, in town can be very quiet once you step off the few streets that all the tourists seem to take!

If you want a hotel with a pool, Villa Brunella is small and lovely, with great views. It spills down the hill below the Via Tragara.

i would take a night in capri, and stay at albergo monestero (it's the monestary in the castle). and then in ischiia, i would go to poseidon gardens (it's a thermal spa, very luxurious)

Oh, I meant to second the suggestion that you go to Montepertuso. We liked it for lunch because of the views. Il Ritrovo is one of several choices that we enjoyed.

You don't say when you're going - so if it's the heat of the summer, you might miss having a pool at La Minerva. Don't get me wrong - we stayed there a couple of nights and absolutely loved it - very elegant but comfy. You might be able to pay a surcharge to use a pool at some other nearby hotel.

Otherwise, the itinerary looks great to me.

I just got back from Campania, the province to where all of the places you will be visiting are located. It's absolutely fantastic, but I was able to narrow down more where I was going to go, by doing a lot of research beforehand. I really suggest, checking out this site, for a comprehensive way of getting around:

I enjoyed the sensibility of it. The only thing that I find really flawed with your Itinerary is staying in Sorrento for 3 days and Postano 3 days. Those two places are really too close together. Why not see the Cliento coast or the coast of Maratea further south? In my opinion Amalfi is over-rated compared to the other coast lines in Italy, which are rarely visited.

Thanks all for your amazing tips! We will be there in the heat of the summer: July 2007! I really love the heat of the Med so don't mind being there when it will be crowded. I am a little worried about no pool in Capri but maybe we'll spend a lot of time near the water?? I know that I wouldn't survive in Santorini without a pool but I'm hoping we'll be exploring Capri a little more...

LoveCalabria, I agree with you and I think we are going to shave off one day in Sorrento. Our main purpose for staying there is to be close to Naples for the flight out and also for Pompeii. Having done more research, I can see that tacking on an extra day to the Positano/Amalfi area might be a better idea...
