Rhon, we are older than you and still plan to go. My husband always says that when we age out of being able to rent a car in France, we'll go to Paris. But we hope that's not for a while!

Very wise words. On a forum like this we all throw out our own suggestions, and then the traveler knows more about what excites others and the options in front of them.

Thank you so very much for this wonderful collection of prose and photos. We will be embarking on a five-week road trip next week - leasing a car, and beginning our adventure in the Dordogne and then on to Portugal by way (briefly) of northern Spain. We will spend ten days in Dordogne - our first time in this region after a number of other road trips throughout much of France.

Our first stay will be in Brantome, then on to a gite near Sarlat. You have given me so many ideas - and special thanks for those remarkable off-the-beaten-track small villages I know we will want to try to include, many not anywhere in my extensive guide bookery investigations.

Thank you again.

Fabulous TR and sounds a wonderful trip and have loved reading about your adventures. rhon I think your TR gives people the confidence in doing a trip ‘their own way’. Thank you.

We both had great trips, Cheska. Doing what you like and what suits you is important, I think. After all, we all here spend a lot of time and money planning and going on our trips. I am finding it hard to believe we have already been back two months.

We are now getting ready to head out in our camper for two or three weeks in Western Queensland before it gets too hot.

I am sure you are enjoying being back in your garden after getting lots of inspiration from the places you visited in France. We were in Canberra last weekend for our twin grandchildren's 18th birthday. It was cold! even though we get cold here.

Take care.

Few realize that Rhon is in fact, a well-known Aussie punk singer (biggest hit 'Rhon for your Life!') and the Western Queensland trek is their annual residency at the Birdsville Pub.
I am done. the chuckles

Love your TR -- thanks for taking the time to write it. It's so nice to hear about some of the lesser known places to visit.

Actually, Zebec, we had a very good lamb shank and mash at the Birdsville pub a couple of years ago. You cannot go to Birdsville and not go to the pub.
