Copenhagen or Stockholm?

We are taking a Nat Geo trip in mid July to Norway ~ starts in Oslo, ends in Bergen.

We would like to add either Copenhagen or Stockholm, anyone have a favorite between these two? How do they compare with each other?

Thanks, I don't know much about either, we have never been to the Scandinavian countries.

Stockholm is best seen in the summer, it is spread out over many islands and you can take a trip into the archipelago. It really is a beautiful city and depending on your interests, there should be things to see eg the Vasa Museum, Gamla Stan, Skansen etc that might interest you.

Copenhagen is quite different, it is also by the sea and has fortifications, castles, parks, has the Tivoli Gardens which is an old fashioned theme park. The food scene is better in Copenhagen IMO with some world class cooking (and prices to match in some but not all cases), it also has an old town, easy to do daytrips to see Hamlet's Castle and Roskilde. Like Stockholm, it has royal palaces. It depends on your interests which city will appeal to you more.

How many days do you want to add to the end of the trip?

Stockholm is good for 4 days plus day trips and Copenhagen for 3 days plus day trips - just for the major sights. Both are expensive (but not as bad as Norway) and agree that Copenhagen has - on balance, better food than Stockholm.

I would have a look at the Michelin green guide for the two cities and see which has sights that appeal most to you - based on the number of days you have.

Much preferred Stockholm. Click on my name for my TR.

I enjoyed both, but think it might depend on how much time you have, as Stockholm easily merits more IMO.

I agree with nytraveler that 4 days is a good base estimate for Stockholm, and strongly encourage at least a 5th day. And I agree with Odin that a trip into the archipelago is a one of the area's great delights.

I thought Copenhagen well worth 2 or 3 days, plus a day for Roskilde.

I found Stockholm exceptionally beautiful.
Copenhagen was good for a couple of days , but did not have the same
appeal for me.

I liked both but I think Stockholm edged out Copenhagen by just a little bit. Very impressed with how clean and beautiful it was.
