Copenhagen and beyond
 

Where to travel to from Copenhagen? I would like to see some history, nature, and experience different cultures. Not sure if Berlin to Prague route would be ideal or Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Brussels route. Any ideas or itineraries please! Train or flights recommended? Will have about 12 days on the ground.

Here's the plan: You come up with at least a basic itinerary and we can help you massage it. Have you yet decided where you are flying home from?

Ok, I'm debating between 2 different routes.
Copenhagen 3 days
Berlin 3 days
Prague 3 days
Fly home from Prague or possibly squeeze in Vienna and go from there, or another stop in Germany. Not sure if easier to fly or train in between

Other would be
Copenhagen 3 days
Rotterdam 2 days
Amsterdam 2 days
Brussels 2 days
maybe shorten Netherlands and add Paris.

The first itinerary is better in terms of giving yourself proper time to see things (allowing for a day's transit time between destinations). I would avoid the temptation in both itineraries to add more destinations, save Vienna or Paris for another time. Berlin to Prague is easy by train, and you see Saxon Switzerland out the left-hand side of the train on the way between Dresden and Prague.

For the second itinerary I would make one base in the Netherlands and do day trips to the other destination.

I can't see how you can ask us to choose between the itineraries for you - both are good, both will work out OK. What are your interests, what will speak to you better?

I'm ok with either iteneray and am more looking for confirmation that I am on the right track. Thank you for the advice of not adding more destinations. Would you recommend flying from Copenhagen to either destination or taking the train?

In July the cities you've picked are going to be busy, Prague is beautiful but has lots of tourists, same with Amsterdam and Brussels. From Copenhagen, you have easy access to Northern Germany which has some beautiful scenery esp by the coast and beautiful cities eg Lübeck.

I am not sure what you mean by whistlestop tours. This is my first trip to Europe so it is easier to initially choose larger well known cities.because I am not familiar. Any scenic areas in Germany would be great and I would be fine with scrapping the larger more well known places, I am just not sure where to start.

I'm going to guess you are new to Europe. I would look close to Copenhagen but travel towards Berlin or Hamburg and visit the towns like Rostock or Luneburg and the lakes around Berlin to get an idea of the wonders of Europe. Then work your way to Leipzig and Dresden before a visit to the countryside north of Prague and finally Prague. More than enough to do and no wild dashing about capital to capital. Use the train all the way. Bahn.de and seat61.com are your friends.

Yes very new. I just in passing had so done mention Sweden and Norway also. Its very overwhelming but I do like your idea of the places in Germany.
