Now THAT'S a tantalizing question. I don't know! I think I read somewhere that it was yellow. But it may not have been that bad as Oscar was quite the dandy and had SUPERIOR taste. I'm sure he wished for something à la Aubrey Beardsley and very art nouveau. ;)

Thanks guys. Now I'm narrowed down to about 5 hotels by location and will price compare.

Hello Ramblero!!

I saw that the Hotel Left Bank Saint Germain had been recommended...and I can also recommend it to you! It's a 3 star hotel and I hope this hotel is part of your final list...The prices are really OK for that type of hotel. I stayed there for about 6 months and I was really happy with thos hotel! I don't think anyone give you their website: www.leftbankstgermain.com.
I also heard about the Hotel Saint Paul..a little bit more expensive but "cool" too: www.h-saintpaul.com.
Have a nice and beautiful honeymoon!!!

HI--I can agree w/Donaldus that it is a nice hotel. We stayed there in March--only one night and so that may have affected the quality of the room, which altho it had a king size bed equivalent--2 twins pushed together w/one headboard--was a very small room w/only enough room to walk around the bed. The bathroom (very basic and minimalist as opposed to the opulent one in the Hotel des Saints Peres) had to have a pocket door b/c there was no room for it to open into the room. Also, since the room was small, there was not much space to the door to the hall, and noise from the hall was very noticeable unless you turned on the fan/AC which you might not want to be using in Nov. It *was* very nicely decorated and had a very high ceiling and 2 very large typical French type windows facing the street, so that made it less claustrophobic. It is a great location as well. But I would not have wanted to stay in that small room for any extended period of time and *especially* not on my honeymoon. I am sure they have other larger rooms and I would just be sure I requested one if I were staying there again.

OK...latest up-date. After the two of us spending many hours over the previous week and literally 18 hrs on Sat and 4 hrs yesterday and 2 hours this morning we were able to get a jr. suite at the Louis II for 5 nights @ 185E (our other choices in the 5th/6th were l'Hotel, the Buci, Grandes Ecoles, Deux Iles, Relais Christine, Saint Jaques, St. Germaine du Pres, but they were all either booked...or only had the smallest rooms available) and 4 nights at the Napoleon in the 8th in a delux @ 295 E with a probable upgrade to a "panoramic delux with direct views of either the Eiffle Tower or the Arch de Triumphe" (other choices were the Baltimore & the Raphael (pricey!!) in the 16th). Anyone with any experience with the Napoleon??? Input would be valued as we can still change reservations.

These were booked through a company in NYC that handles bookings for many Paris and European hotels....www.ehi.com. They responded when I emailed the Baltimore for reservation information. Does anyone know anything about EHI?? Robert, the guy I spoke to (and the owner) seemed very knowledgable about most of the hotels we have researched and could get us very good rates on all the hotels.

Ramblero, that's great! I'm glad you were able to make a decision and get the rooms you wanted so quickly. A view of the Eiffel Tower or Arc de Triomphe will be so nice on a honeymoon. :)

well, one reason I've always kind of wanted to stay at the Madison (and might if I ever stayed in St Germain) is that Albert Camus lived there a while -- it's where he finished his novel L'Etranger.

I've heard of ehi.com (or run across them online) but haven't used them and don't know much about them. It's a company named European Horizons and I think they also have a travel magazine, and are headquartered in New York City. The owner is Robert Weingrad.
